Let me get this straight - the COMMANDING OFFICER, wearing a costume, visits November company on Halloween and offers the recruits a piece of candy, and those who accept receive Incentive Training until they're "smoked"? What's up with that? What should they have done, stood together as a company and spurned the CO's offer? These recruits can pass their academic and physical fitness tests with flying colors, but can't march together after all this time? A company in this much trouble definitely needs a change - AT THE TOP!

Once again, we were glad to see the
Quebec-180 weekly report. Thanks so
much. Looks like the Training Officers are doing a great job with our sons and daughters! You are all in our prayers. Have a Coastie Week!
We are one week closer to seeing you all show us what an awesome unit can do!

Is November really doing terribly compared to all the other companies or does the blogger just choose to tell the worst? I am asking sincerely here out of concern. I read the other company blogs and I hear encouraging words that those recruits are learning and working together, etc. It seems November gets worse every week. If so, I am sad for *my recruit.

As parents of a November-180 recruit, we look forward each week to reading about how all the companies are doing. I must admit that the most recent November journal entry was extremely depressing to read. While all the other companies seem to express the positive accomplishments, November's journal entries only talk about the negative aspects, which is extremely disheartening to the families of these brave men and women. We know this is not meant to be a sugar coated diary, but the people who are reading these journal entries are the families and friends of these recruits and we are feeling the stress too. Some positive feedback would be welcome.

I, too, am very disappointed that every blog for November company is full of negativity. I know for a fact that my son is doing very well, so there are some recruits that deserve to have something positive written about them. They aren't all bad apples. Who writes these blogs? Is it a recruit or the training officer? Anyone know?
Lets hear some words of encouragement. After all, they only have 2 weeks left.

Proud mama said...

I don't think everyone should be posting such down and negative blog comments about the entries. First off, it is a priveledge that the USCG lets these entries get posted. It is the true feelings of one representative, however, they reflect a team. Sometimes, a few do need to get weeded out and now is the time, not when the real crisis is going on. It is for the safety of our children and loved ones. Pray for God to strengthen them and encourage them during these times.

As one who has experienced boot camp first hand and has 18 years of military service, I am well aware of the purpose of basic training: take individual civilians and transform them, in a very short time, into a cohesive military team.

I have read with great dismay the negative remarks regarding November 180. When I experienced boot camp, my Drill Instructor informed all of us we were the worst group of pond scum he has ever seen. I understand that the CC's are all over the recruits, as they should be. What is not happening, however, is that the N-180 blog casts the company in an incredibly negative light whereas it should be to inform and encourage loved ones. The blog is not a privilege as it is a mandate from the USCG Commandant to provide medal awareness to the public.

I have other concerns but will discuss them with the appropriate people. I am proud of each and every one of our soon to be Guardians and look forward to calling them my brothers and sisters in arms.

Geez November bloggers, lighten up, it's all a game. Also, it's Coasties...not Guardians...Guardians are foster parents.

Go Sarita! I'm not sure why the Coast Guard chooses to depart from the ID of "Coasties". Guardian is a Hollywood induced image.

Those poor kids in November 180. I agree, the company commanders are being too hard on them. I mean, come on, it's just candy at halloween. I think all of our precious recruits should have gotten a nice little halloween basket full of candy on their racks that night. Maybe the company commanders could have told spooky ghost stories after the lights went out too. I mean, CG boot camp is really more like an 8-week summer camp, right? Do you think next year, they could have a wiennie-roast and sing-along around a nice, warm bonfire?

I'd like to see more November 180 pictures. Also, congratulations to Lima 180 on their graduation yesterday!! Way to go! Does anyone know what "its all a game" mean? as per a previous entry. By the way November earned on base liberty today. Guess they're doing O.K.!!

The person writing the November 180 Blog is a brave young recruit who is completing Week 6 of boot camp.
I have enjoyed reading each one of her blogs as she describes the rigors of boot camp with honesty and humor. November 180 is a strong and bright group of recruits but teamwork is an issue. The fact that they do not yet have their colors is a concern for everyone who cares. If you are getting letters from your recruit then you know how they are doing as an individual. These blogs describe them as a group.
I hope that they get it together and earn their colors this week abd receive off base liberty. The fact that they earned on base this week tells me that they are doing something right!

I hope that the negative comments about the blog do not cause the CG to discontinue or edit the bloggers comments.

Greetings,
We started posting recruit journal entries to provide friends and families with a glimpse of what their loved ones were experiencing during training and to capture historical information about each company.

Recruits write the blogs; each company has a member assigned to journal once a week. Some recruits submit a paragraph, others write a short paragraph for each day of the week. We don’t require a certain format, we don’t tell the recruits what to write, and we don’t change any of the text. As you all know, social media is not a structured format.

Recruit training is a roller coaster of emotions with highs and lows. We ask that you continue to support your recruit with letters of encouragement and know that our company commanders are well-trained professionals that want the best for your recruits.

Graduation day will come and go and I guarantee that your recruit will be always remember the lessons they learned here at Training Center Cape May.

To Training Center Cape May:

Thank you.

Please see uscg.org Family Forum for some very positive comments about the Nov 180 blog. Many folks like the honest depiction of boot camp life.

kat44 said...

Thank you so much for the company journals and pictures!! I hope they continue! Hopefully you will provide for each company the list of all the recruits and where they will be stationed after graduation.
I enjoy the journals, both the good news and the bad as, in the end, we can all celebrate their success..all the sweeter for the hard road that was traveled.

Thought I would give a few words of encouragement to those family and friends of Q-180, who don't have a recruit writing very much or at all. Some of them aren't big writers and others have other duties. Our Q-Recruit sent us a long letter today. It was a letter full of absolute pride in what his company has evolved into over these weeks.
He spoke of how tough it has been and how glad was that it has been tough because they are all better off for it. He spoke of how much they have learned and how far they have all come together. They all passed their mid-terms. Most did very well! Everyone passed the PT test! He said they are wanting to exceed their CC's requests. Now, I don't know about you, but that makes me proud. let me throw this in while I am at it. Our recruit wrote this. "We (Q-180) have prayer in our squad bay every night. All of us, who want to pray, gather in the front of the room to have group prayer. A couple of nights ago we were praying. The kid leading the prayer started praying for the CC's and their families right when our lead CC walked into the room. I hoped this showed him that we respect and wish the best for them. We don't despise them. When the Lead CC heard the prayer he got this surprised look on his face and then he lowered his head in prayer, as well." Now, families and friends
that was a blessing to us. I hope you feel the same joy we felt in the good news! Tough, yes, but look
at the outcome. Of course, all of the companies are amazing and we pray for the entire base many times a day. I know this blog is not for our recruits. They don't get to read it, but be encouraged. We have a treat in store for all of us as our companies graduate.

My wife and I are both Army Vets and have a daughter in S-180. We're proud as can be. I was reading some of the N-180 blogs and will tell everybody after being a Army Drill Sergeant for two years...there is NO bad group of recruits. We NEVER allowed a company of Drill Sergeants say they got bad bad troops, because what they got was a cross section of the US...like the other companies. No one unit got all the bad folks. So I think N-180 is no different than the rst...hang in there SRs...and CCs...I know you'll exercise the extra effort for a SR when needed...because that's leadership....thanks

What an awesome day today was!! We received our first phone call from our son in Q-180. He's sounds great. For graduation, he said that he was only allowed 6 people, but he never mentioned if it was inside or out. Way to go QUEBEC 180!!! See you in 20 days!!! We are so very proud of you!!!

My son is in TANGO-180. His birthday was November 9. For his birthday they let him send us a postcard. He told us that bootcamp was hard but he would not give up. Although his note was short it meant the world to me. We look forward to reading upcoming journal enteries.

My son in Q-180, who is a husband and father gave his wife a call today!!!! They are headed to Destin, Florida for their first duty station. I couldn't be more proud of him and his company. It sounds as though they have done great.

Admittedly both my wife and I were sceptical when our son decided to join the USCG. He is now a proud member of Q-180, and I am beaming with pride when he writes to us about his exploits and accomplishments. I can't wait to see him again on Dec.05.. Best wishes to all the Coastie recruits and may you only encounter calm waters in the months & years ahead

My Q180 call came yesterday on my 50th birthday. I couldn't ask for a better present. Our Coastie is headed for ALASKA aboard the Cutter Maple. What an adventure for an 18 yr old young man. We are so proud of Josh and December can't come fast enough. Now if I could just figure out how to visit him in Alaska.....

Both my daughter-in-laws received phone calls Saturday from my son's in Q180. They sound so much more mature. One is headed to St. Clair Shores, MI and the other to Cleveland, OH. I'm so proud of them and cant wait to see them on Dec.5th. They say they can call on Wed's. And then the finally week free liberty to call whenever. GO Q180 WE ARE PROUD OF YOU

this is regarding all the commments previously about the N-180 blog. people are expressing how they feel about the blog to the Training Center, not you people that want to get all snotty about it and argue. if you think the journal entries are great than share that with TRACEN...you dont have to leave rude comments back to the people saying they dont like them. Act like adults people!

He was chosen from his company to be in the color guard and will be carrying the flag at his graduation. I"m the proud sister of a recruit from Sierra-180. Thanks to all the families participating in Operation Fireside. My heart was heavy thinking that my baby brother would be in a cafeteria eating his Thanksgiving meal. The pictures made me feel good that he was able to relax and enjoy a home cooked meal. I'm so grateful for your kindness and generosity.
Sierra-180 Keep up the progress, I look forward to reading your journal entries and hearing about the great things you're accomplishing as a team. Keep up the excellent work.
