Hi Caleb--

Mom here. Wishing you well and hope you are doing good. Just figured out how to work the blog thingie. Sorry I haven't written in a while. Real busy at work--losses coming in fast/furious. And nothing but major drama at home since you left with Rachel and Justin. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you and wonder what kind of mischief you have gotten yourself into now. Can't wait to see you--especially in uniform!

Glad to hear you had taken a position of command within the unit. Show the Guard what good Navy stock you come from!

Hope you have nicer weather there than we've had. Cold, wet, dreary here for about a week now. First snow Thursday night (10/15) mixed with rain. Rain and snow again on Sunday afternoon (10/18). White-out just about all the way home from Grandma's when Rachel and I left at 5 PM.

Keep your chin up, follow orders and show then what you are made of. Remember to take it one day at a time and be strong. We all miss miss and are hoping that you get leave for Thanksgiving. Just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without you around picking at everything all day long and eating everything in site!!!

Grandma says hi as does Rachel.
Gonna have to run and get to work now. We are all extremely proud of you!

Love ya--

Hey Pooh, I hope you are having fun this week learning the new skills you will be using as a Seaman. Remember to be patient, things will come to you soon enough. It is very important to not get discouraged with your progress because the intent is to give you the basics. The real training will come after you get to your first assignment. They are going to push you in every way and you have to be mentally sound enough to take it constructively. You need to understand these guys are suppose to see what you are made of and I know who raised you, you can handle anything. You hang in there girl, I'm very Proud....

The recruits do not get to see the blogs! ! ! !

I was checking on motels for graduation and many are closed of the season, I found this on one of the other company's blog
. . . . . . . . .
About lodging for graduation ...
The one I always recommend is:
The Grand http://www.grandcapemay.com/
or Congress Hall http://www.congresshall.com/
Both are less then 5 minutes to the base.

Wildwood is ok, but a little bit of a drive. Wherever you book, be sure to ask about a CG discount -- the hotels around here are so used to recruit families that they often will offer a military discount.

Keep in mind also that it may be a little early to book flights and hotel rooms for graduation. There is always the chance (especially the first few weeks) that your recruit could get rephrased (medical) or reverted into a later week of training. We'll keep a positive thought though that everyone will graduate together! :-)

Hello friends and family of Lima 182!
I find the following website to be very helpful: http://www.capemay.com/coastguardgraduation.html#
It gives the names of the hotels closest to the base and has directions. I didnt make a reservation yet because my son was reverted . Its good to know he is with a fine group of recruits and I pray that he will rebound from the set back and be stronger for it. Prayers for all of you. Our proud day is coming.

Lima 182 families,

We found out that going to Atlantic City instead of Philadelphia was cheaper and closer to Cape May. Unfortunately we found out from the owner of the hotel we are going to stay at. My daughter is in J-182 so I am trying to let other families know ahead of time! Hope everyone can make it to graduation. Good luck and Congratulations for supporting L-182

Hello fellow Coastie families-

Well, it's the beginning of week 5! Woo hoo! Time is flying although it seems like forever since I've seen my daughter. We have airfare booked and looking at hotels. Has anyone booked at the Blue Fish or have any other ideas. We want to be as close to the training center as possible. Is anyone staying that night after graduation and leaving that Saturday? This should be the week we get to talk to them and find out their orders! I can't hardly sleep at night, I'm so excited to hear from her :-)

thank you Jim and cindy for your information.
I am looking forward to seeing my daughter and want it to be a pleasureably experience with graduation. Your info was right on target. Because most of the hotel have stiff penities for cancelation if not 14 days notice it is important to know before hand. I also will tell you the recruiter my daughter had is wonderful. And still is helpful.
With that said 5th week countdown. GO LIMA 182 !!! Hope to see everyone at graduation.

SR Constable - the other day I started thinking about you as I was working the treadmill trying to lose weight for the 182nd time. I was sweating pretty good and pushing pretty hard and startin' to feel good about myself...when it dawned on me...I'll bet Scott has been pushin' himself pretty hard - physically, mentally and emotionally...probably harder than he ever imagined...and I began to grow proud of you. And then pride turned to envy as I realized that what I was doing is for ME - and what YOU AND THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN OF LIMA 182 are doing is for EVERYONE.

Scott - Continue to have faith in God - faith in each other & faith in yourself and you will make a difference in all the ways that matter.

Dear Lima 182 Family,

Does anyone know if the graduates have to travel straight home from Cape May, or could they stay in the area an extra day? Also, does anyone know if they can fly out of anywhere other than Philadelphia?

I missed our son's call today, but we got a message from him saying he will need to take his things to his post, which is driving distance from us, but will be home for Thanksgiving. Does anyone know what the leave policy is for their company regarding Thanksgiving? I know they get 5 days, but which 5?

If you have not received a call yet, keep your phone close by - I was so sorry to miss the call. All of the information I had said it would be Saturday so I was not as alert as I would have been!

We hope to meet you all at graduation!

Hello families & friends just a little info the recruits get to make one call only, it only about 5minutes any question you have can be answered on this site (www.uscg.mil/hq/capemay) under the heading FAQ there is lot of good information there as well as when they get to come home and how is spelled out. it was a great site most of the orders come out on a friday, but there can be delays . Sorry to anyone that missed their call.. its a tough one , am not a cryer, but I cried my eyes out after.. there's no time during the call. Just hearing thier voice is great. Unforuntely we had a recent death in the family so it marred our happy call. But thanks to the CC they allow her to call back so she is OK. with it.
If anyone's wondering mail was taking some time , but they are getting much quicker now.

Hi CG Friends and Families
I just received a letter from my son and it says he has to go to ramp. No explanation about what that is. Does anyone out there know what ramp stands for ? I looked online but couldnt find anything. His letter was overall very much a downer and has me worried especially because by now I thought things would be looking up. Can someone post if they know.
Prayers to all our recruits- Kathy

Gary Reed said...

I was able to find this on Ramp Assignment 2. Ramp Assignment
The determination of what ramp you will work is based of the needs of the Coast Guard and the
boating traffic at the ramp. The only thing we will guarantee is you will work with your spouse if
you desire. Last year we had 3 inspectors at one ramp and 0 at others. The maximum number of
people we will assign to one ramp are 2. We must show our Coast Guard presence at as many
locations as possible.

Hope this helps some. We have so little communications with the recruits it is easy to read into what they might say, not say or just a feeling we get. My son made some statements on a 2 minute phone call and had me worried. I was wrong. He is doing great. Hang in there. The 20th is not far off.

RAMP is Recruit Attitude Motivation Program, some can be sent back at this point.
This came from the Oscar 182 Mom of Coast Guardman blog. Came from a lady who's husband is a CC.
Hope that helps. Sorry I don't know anything else. (If you want to check out the blog, go to Oscar182 blog, find the name Terri and click on it, it takes you to Terri's blogs, click on the USCG Mom Of CG page

YOHO!

So spent seven hours in the ER last night for my neck issue. I called my sister and asked her about what she thought it might be and she had a cow. she demanded that I go to the ER. I only asked cause Mark's uncle is an orthopedic surgeon and he said to go have it looked at. So I went 7 hours later i have a pinched nerve. So now i can't work until who knows. THIS SUCKS!!!

On a lighter note however. YOU GRADUATE NEXT WEEK!!! How exciting! i can't wait to see you.. and hear about your time in boot camp and where your first assignment is.

SEE YOU SOON!!!!

Hi Madison!! I hope you are having a WONDERFUL day today. I just learned something very interesting -- 121 years ago today, my Grandmother Read (my Mom's mother) was born!! Soooo - that means that on the day you were born she would have turned 100years old!!! Isn't that the neatest thing?!?! She would have loved you as much as I do.

All my love, Helen

Congrats to Lima 182 for 12 full hours of liberty on Sunday. We are fortunate enough to live 70 miles from Cape May and drove down to spend the day. I have 2 pics of them marching out if any parent would like me to send them along. Just send me an e-mail at rcasagrand@comcast.net and I will forward. They looked great! On the down hill now, see you Friday. Stephen, we are so very proud of you and your accomplishment.
