RECRUIT JOURNALS
Journals are posted to USCGBOOTCAMP by close of business every Tuesday. The first journal for each company is posted in week three of training.
If a journal entry is not posted, it means one of two things, the company is in week one or two of training or the Web master did not receive a submission.
The journals were created to provide family and friends with a peek into the lives of their recruits. The recruit historians try to document the experiences of the company not individual recruits.
We hope you enjoy reading the journals and experiencing Coast Guard Recruit Training through the eyes of our Guardians in the making.
This is an official United States Coast Guard posting for the Public's information.

For all of you not eligible for Operation Fireside (U-180) - Just know that the first 3 weeks are the hardest - hang in there!
As a parent of a recruit with Sierra 180 we are so proud of him and all the Coast Guard recruits. We injoy the blog postings each week. It sounds like you are on track with other units ahead of you. This week should be a great moment for all, this is the week you should receive your orders to your next unit. Keep up with a job well done. All parents have something to be proud of in all recruits but for us especially Sierra 180 unit.
Thanks to all the host families for taking our recruits in for the day, It is an amazing gesture of humanity on your part and we are all in awe.
Thank you, thank you, thank you
Thanks to the community members participating in Operation Fireside. It warms my heart to know my brother wasn't sitting in a cafeteria eating his Thanksgiving meal. I'm so proud of the growth Sierra-180 has made! Keep up the great team work you're making us all so proud! Only 21 days until graduation. Stay strong in body, mind and spirit! I know you can do it!
I was so happy to hear from my husband on Thanksgiving, I couldn't ask for anything better on Thanksgiving. I just want to express how very proud I am of you and Sierra 180. You guys are doing great keep up the hard work; you only have 20 days left you’re almost at the finish line.... I was very excited to find out we will be moving to Atlantic beach, North Carolina!! I can't wait till December 19th....
Is there anyone who knows if the recruits get to see our encouraging words in the blogs?
This message is to "sidfamily." The answer to your question do they read our messages, No. I asked my son if they read the blogs and he said no. I also asked him who was writing their blog and he said he did not know. He said they have very little spare time to do anything including reading and writing letters.
Dave is correct. We spoke to our son (Q-180) about this and he said that they don't have access to computers to be able to read the blogs. He said that he thinks one of their CCs writes the journal entries, but I also know that some companies have one of the recruits write the journal entries. These recruits may have access to read some of the entries, but I don't know.
Answering your question “sidfamily”, when I spoke to my husband who is in Sierra 180, he told me that he has not seen our postings, but it is two recruits from each company who take turns writing the posts every week for their company...
More news on U180, please
