RECRUIT JOURNALS
Journals are posted to USCGBOOTCAMP by close of business every Tuesday. The first journal for each company is posted in week three of training.
If a journal entry is not posted, it means one of two things, the company is in week one or two of training or the Web master did not receive a submission.
The journals were created to provide family and friends with a peek into the lives of their recruits. The recruit historians try to document the experiences of the company not individual recruits.
We hope you enjoy reading the journals and experiencing Coast Guard Recruit Training through the eyes of our Guardians in the making.

Thanks for setting up the facebook page--should be fun to keep up with the recruits as they progress through boot camp. Actually though, the page should be for OSCAR 183 rather than October. Looking forward to checking it out!

Kathy, I was wondering the same thing. Does anyone know why they named it October vs the correct phonetic alphabet Oscar?
The letter that we received yesterday from the TRACEN Command & Chaplain's offices indicated that they were OSCAR 183 and that is how all mail to our recruit should be addressed. Not sure why there seem to be 2 answers to this question, but I suggest that, when in doubt, go by what you read in the letter from the Command.

Your kids are probably scared out of their minds right now.... My son had BM2Jansen for the 1st week he got there and said he was a tattooed beast....They do eventually come together as a team and when they do everything begins to come together for them.

Welcome aboard! I am the Mom of a Mike 182 graduate. (Nov 26-seems like yesterday) The recruits don't get to see these comments until about week 6 or 7, and only if they take the initiative to look for it online when they get computer privileges. WRITE TO THEM EVERYDAY! My son said "mail" was the highlight of their days/nights/weeks. They all get very close and share news/stories with the entire company. Stay strong, be proud. BTW, BM2 Jansen was one of my son's CC's and he is awesome!!!
They will learn respect, honor and devotion very quickly. Jansen, Ricketts and Wingate are THE BEST CC's. So, Oscar company is getting one of the greatest!

He's doing the CG symbol in the center with a Dophin helicopter flying above and the Tiger Shark in the waters below. I hope you're doing great in boot camp! Hopefully, you actually check this blog while you're at Cape May but best of luck. Petty Officer Mullins is a great CC; he pushed my company pretty damn hard but all of it was worthwhile and meaningful. Enjoy your liberty weekends as much as you can and make the most of boot; you mainly just gotta survive plus you're gonna definitely gonna miss it when it's over! Good Luck! I'm waiting to hear what awards you end up earning. =P
