Just me again, The "old woman" . Hope all is going well and you are going to get through this. So its not all exercise...You are really learning new things. What is the weather like back there? I heard that you might be getting internet..That will be great. Then you can get all these blogs. I wished you were getting them now because this is better than sending letters. You are a very popular guy on the internet...
We all love you and miss you and I need just one little hug....xoxoxoxoxo Love Nana

hello dear, if you get to read this, I just want you to know that I think it would be a good decision to call your parents this week, and if you get another chance to then call me... because i think i'd be so excited and overwhelmed that i'd cry, and i dont want you to waste your phone call [:

I listened to my emergency voicemail today- I hadn't listened to it in a couple of weeks and it made me cry to even hear your voice on my voicemail. I miss you love.
3 weeks, and 4 days... sounds familiar right? ;)

Stay strong- I'm so proud of you!

Hey Justin,,, are you ready for some Arby's??? Glad you're liking the food there. Don't be shy on getting the dessert though. Go after what you want... Thanks for the letters, we were really glad to hear from you, finally.. Talked to Joe and he said the SK was good for you to get into, if you can. Jen was also pleased to hear you had chosen as one of your picks, Virginia & Boston. They'd be able to see you. Keep giving it your all with the swimming. You'll pass it. We all believe in you! The weather has started to change. We got some heavy rain last week and a little bit more today. It's nice though.. love the rain and the clean rain smell.
Keep the faith and the Son in your eyes.
Love ya,
Sheila & Dad

Hey Justin. It was nice getting your letters. I've had an accident Sat. @ work. I fell in oil & water & broke my right foot in 2 places. Thurs. they'll put my cast on. Have to wait approx. 5 days to make sure the swelling goes down before they put the cast on. So it looks like I'll be coming to graduation with a cast & crutches.. bummer.. ha.. Did you get our flight information so you can see about flying home with us & Sarah? Your little brother played the 49'ers tonight and lost. They're now 2 (l) & 1 (w). He's really liking it. If swimming is the only trouble you're having, don't give up. Keep pushing and they will help you get through it to graduate. Keep up the great work!
Love ya,
DAD

I am sorry about the false hope about the possible phone call on Monday. It may be possible that he meant next Monday. Nevertheless, we will all be getting that much anticipated phone call very soon. Best wishes to all the Coastie friends and families.

I got your letter and it sounds a lot better than the first one. I am so happy you feel like your shipmates are your second family. That is how a team works. Leaast than a month and I get a hug, I knew you would push yourself to do this. Sounds like it is getting better. Have you done the swim and gun drills yet? I know you are looking forward to that. Still put down home for a station. It could not hurt to try. T.J. got 2-a, 2-b and 2-c on report. He is doing great. I have a surprise for you when you get home. Keep the letters coming. God bless you and don't forget to pray at 2200 every night with me.
I love you,

I was just wondering about our letters to our recruits. We have sent five letters and and have received three letters, and they keep asking us to write, it sounds like (from her response) that she has only gotten our first letter. Has anyone else had this problem. I do know that they can not receive any newspaper clippings. The ones we sent, she did not get.
Letters to home sound encouraging. The girls seem to be working together as a team and encourage each other. See you all in a couple of weeks.

We are just at the month mark baby take it to the finish line. Push with everything you have believe in yourself and your shipmates. You too can be another proud sailor in our family. :) We love baby girl. Oh btw I have watched the Twilight movies so we can have that movie day. I miss you. hugs and love and kisses on both cheeks

what a great idea to print them out and send them to our recruit...I'm doing that too!!!! thanks for the idea!!!

Unknown said...

To Dad and Mom

Yes we too have received 3 letters from our recruit, and have sent many cards and letters. From what I understand the company has to earn mail time, so there could be a delay in them receiving letters from home. However, she has not commented much on our letters, as she has been keeping us informed on her experiences at boot camp. She also tells me that the girls are doing well as a team. Hope to see you on the 13th!

We have received 4 letters from our daughter over the past 3 weeks two of which came on the same day. They have arrived on either a Thursday or Friday. We have been sending letters or cards every day and she has commented that she is receiving mail. She also has said that the girls are pulling together as a team. Anxious for our phone call this week! See you all on the 13th.

Ashley Groeneveld-Tillinghast said...

Dad Mom/Shirley Scott-

I've received three letters also - every friday they come. He's said that they really only have time to write on Sundays- and sometimes even during the time he has to write, he has to clean, iron and get his rack ready for inspection.

I was also wondering about the letters that i've sent to him- I usually send a few each week. This last letter, Brett told me that our letters arrive so much later than we write them that it's hard to respond specifically to our letters.
Which may be the case for your recruits too, they might not respond to/ or mention your letters because of the time delay in delivery.

Hope this helps
3 weeks, 3 days!

My son Scott writes that any info. on the outside world is welcome as the Company is so focused on Coast Guard training! He also said it would be breaking the rules to write on any other day than Sunday! His last letter was written on 11OCT09,postmarked the 13th, and recieved on the 16th/Friday! I've noticed changes in Scott with every letter he has written (I'll dearly miss the old Scott) but this is to be expected! He seems very focussed on his mission options after basic and shared his options in his last letter!
Looking forward to the Graduation!

He tells me they have all written out their "dream sheets" and will find out on Thursday where they will be stationed. He is hoping to get to call that same day. He also told me that he got to read the Blog comments last week. So...keep them coming in because they do read them (HI STEVE)I'm sending those stamps out today.

3 weeks from today i'm flying out to come and see you! I'm writing you another letter now- it's taking a few times to bring it to a close- lots to say in this one i guess. :) I miss you so much!! This is a crazy thing to be apart without a real conversation for almost 5 weeks now.
I love reading the weekly journals that your company posts- You're getting your assignment tomorrow and I'm so excited for you. I can't wait to hear where'll you'll be.
Tonight i was babysitting Wyatt and he grabbed his fake cell phone, and i asked him who he was talking to, and he said he was talking to you. Sometimes i'll say, "Wy- I miss Brett." and he says, "yeah, me too DD" I think it goes without saying that you are misssseddd!!! I cannot wait to see you again.
Stay strong, stay focused, and remember that you are in Gods hands. Psalm 23.

Hi Justin. I went to the Dr today & he said it looks like my ankle shifted, so he's going to put in a plate with 3-4 screws on Mon 10/26. Supposed to be off work for 3 months. So if you get stationed in the west coast, I can help you get settled. Got your letter.. not too happy about your flight plan. Site says you can give them the information and they'll try to put you on the same flight home as ours. They sent a paper home that said the same thing, you can take the same flight as we are. You just needed the return flight plan info & they'll put you on the same flight as we are. They have 8 seats available on any flight for the US Military Branch on every flight. It's only a 4 hr drive to Jen & Joe's house. You need to talk to somebody because there won't be anybody to pick you up in San Francisco. Your nana hasn't been in SF in a long time.. She doesn't know her way and doesn't feel comfortable driving there. Glad to hear you passed your swimming!! I knew you could do it. Also your mid-term.. That's awesome!! Glad it's down hill for you now. I'm so proud of you..

I love you and can't stop thinking about you and about how proud I am of you for pushing through something so challenging. U can do this, u can do anything, to voluntarily put yourself out there like you have for boot camp is a great accomplishment for all those who do it & each one should be proud of themselves for doing it! Most people can't do such a thing. I hope you have had a great wk of learning and experiencing many new things.

SR Marlowe,
Hey Justin. So we hear you're going to Massachusets? Where at in Mass? Joe's thinking maybe where he was at,, in Woods Hole. That's cool. Since you're going out on the east coast, Jen was hoping it was in VA by them. I've read that a couple of your team mates are going to where they live & where Joe is stationed, Portsmouth, VA. Wish it was you going there if you have to be out on the east coast. We're bummed you're not closer to home, but it's a great opportunity for you to see the country. Hope to hear from you soon. We're on our way, 2 weeks from tomorrow... Dad's surgery went great,, he's in a lot of pain though. Will take time to heal. Joe said that if you're in class, you have access to a computer plus you have an email address.. He sounded like only people that are in the military can send you email..? Not sure if I understood him right. Hopefully you will be able to make a few phone calls. Dad needs to hear your voice..(we all do, but especially dad.) He wants to find out more from you. Hope things are going good for you still. Hang in there,, only a couple more weeks!!
Love ya,

Hi Justin, your dad talked to Sarah today & found out a little more than what he knew. So you're going to Newburyport, MA. Called Jen & Joe & Joe said that it's one of the busiest and best places for you to go. He said the cost of living is higher, less crime and that you will be out on a boat rescuing, checking fishing boats, etc. Said you will work 2 days, home 2, back on for 3 days, etc. Will work every other weekend for awhile but at least you won't be going out on the ship for a couple months at a time. Around 6 months after that you can go to school and hopefully come home to California. So were you put up against one of the meanest, strongest guys for the pugil stick training? I'm sure you did very well. So you got your dress uniforms! Awesome.. it's getting more & more official, or I mean you're learning more & more because it was official when you were sworn in. How was your 'off base company run'? Bet it was a nice change. I bet people stood by & watched your team. I'm sure some of them even saluted you. What an awesome feeling that would be. Sounds like you get to go off base this weekend. Forgot what they call it. Call us collect if you have to. Dad says to dial 0 and our phone #. We're so proud of you Justin!! I'm sure more than you realize. Hoping for a letter from you tomorrow.
Keep the Son in your eyes and your faith strong. See you soon.. hugs & kisses,,, Love Sheila & Dad

A letter from my son today said that on-base liberty may be granted "if" they do well with their rifle test. That means they may call home this Saturday- so stay near your phones. Counting the days till graduation as you all are. Lets hope they pull it together.

Another wk almost through, hope its going well for you! Miss you so much, hope for letters every day but that doesn't happen, but I send letters everyday, so I hope you get them!!
The journal was an interesting read, sounds like you've been experienceing some cool things! & Learning a bit more about your future. Apparently you are part of the 10% that didn't get a place that you picked for orders. But everything happens for a reason I keep telling myself. I'm sure it will be great! We love you very much and look forward to hearing from you when we can!
Love you sweetie, have a great day!
I love you, Can't wait to see you!!

Families of Kilo 182,

It was so nice to hear our future guardian's voice this Saturday with a call not so rushed as last week! Sounds like all is going pretty well. They earned their on base liberty which was big!! Cant wait to see her though. She sounded enthusiastic about her first assignment, but also fatigued as well. Graduation is just around the corner now! Great Job Kilo 182! See you all on the 13th!

SR Meyer wrote that he has to leave immediately after graduation for his flight home and will be reporting to his recruiter on Monday the 16th. Scott will be doing "hometown recruiting" before leaving for Mobile,Alabama. Are there other recruits doing this also?

Yes our daughter is also scheduled to report on the 16th for hometown recruiting. She then has a report date of December 9 for her first assignment in Portsmouth Va. We are fortunate enough to be close enough to drive to Cape May tomorrow to visit her for off base liberty. Hope to see you all at graduation next Friday!!! Wow! Almost Done!

We are from Western PA and also will be driving to Cape May tomorrow to visit our daughter for the off base liberty. She will be stationed in Staten Island and mentioned a friend who will be recruiting in that area for 3 weeks before she reports to VA. It sounds like this is your daughter. Hello!

Unknown said...

Donna,

Hello! We just got a 2 min call to say they definitely earned their off base liberty! We are from Central New Jersey. Hopefully we will see you sometime tomorrow, as Cape May is not a very big town, and all dressed up as Guardians? Kind of hard to hide! Have a safe trip!

We had the opportunity to visit with our recruit yesterday. We were able to meet with many of her shipmates. I just wanted to say what a great group of future Guardians they are! One week to go! See you all on Friday!

We're here in Virginia. Leaving tomorrow to go to New Jersey. It's a 4 hr. drive and 1-1 1/2 hr fairy ride. So the rain and wind came the day we landed and isn't stopping until we leave. I guess Virginia doesn't like us Californian's here.. ha.. Can't wait for Fri, less than 2 days. We saw you on ESPN2 today and recorded it so YOU can see it too. Aunt Libby sends her love & grandma (dad's mom) does too. I know grandma & grandpa H does too. She was very happy to get your letters.. See you in 36 hrs!! Woo hoo,, you did it (as we knew you would)!!
Love ya,
Dad & Sheila : )
