Hello Families! Just FYI -- your recruit will not be able to view this blog. It is meant as a tool for communication among yourselves with other families who have loved ones in basic training at Cape May. Your recruits are in good hands in Mike 182!
Hang in there and be sure to write them often as that is what keeps them going. :-)

SR Kyle Chapin,

Sending you mega watts of positive energy to help you stay strong, you can do it! We are sooo very proud of you and cannot wait to be in Cape May to see you graduate. Lots of prayers are coming your way from the family and our friends. We love you Kyle. I am so glad we found this site. Very cool!

Hello to the other families who have recruits in Mike 182,
So glad we found this site, did not know it existed an hour ago.
I wonder if any of you have adjusted to this first week yet, as proud as we are of our son, it has not been easy, find ourselves stopping and try to imagine what he is doing at any given time of day or night. we all knew it would be hard, just wish we could fast forward to Thanksgiving already.

Marianne,

I am also having a hard time adjusting right now. My husband is in M182 and this first week has been very difficult. We have a 6 month old daughter that is missing him lots too. Thanksgiving could not come any faster!!!

We love you SR Nazzario!

Marianne said...

Shelby,
I hope you have family and friends to help you and keep you company while he is gone, the good news is he will be home for the holiday. is he a reservist or in active duty? My son is in as a reserve, will start college in January. He is strong, and smart, and i am not sure what exactly i am anxious about, except all the stories i have heard about the stress they are put under. I hope they all bond and come together as a unit quickly. I think it gets easier once they accomplish that. can't wait till the 3rd week when they start to post entries of their journey.

Shelby said...

Marianne,

He is active duty. I have been on here daily waiting for something to be written about his company. I am very happy to know that he will be home for Thanksgiving just wish it could be here a little quicker well, a lot quicker!

Graduation Lodging:
After spending most of the afternoon researching lodging in Cape May(and being underwhelmed with the reviews) I opted to make a reservation at The Days Inn in Wildwood. I got the room for 71.10 with tax brings it to $81.00. I called the front desk at the hotel and was told they are 5 miles from Cape May but mapquest said 10 miles. The representative said that the hotel is vacant that week (they have 79 rooms).
So no one else wastes time, I will fill you in on whats closed for the season:
Cape Harbor Motor Inn
Capri Motor Lodge
For those with children: Star Inn: the dates grayed out when I put in Nov 23/24 so I called. It is "mostly adult only property" as the representative informed me when I said I checked the child box and thats why it grayed out.
I figured I would book a room early as rooms would be limited and at least its done. Nov.24 will be here before we know it.YAY!!

About lodging for graduation ...
The one I always recommend is The Grand or Congress Hall
http://www.grandcapemay.com/ http://www.congresshall.com/

Both are less then 5 minutes to the base. Wildwood is ok, but a little bit of a drive. Wherever you book, be sure to ask about a CG discount -- the hotels around here are so used to recruit families that they often will offer a military discount.
Keep in mind also that it may be a little early to book flights and hotel rooms for graduation. There is always the chance (especially the first few weeks) that your recruit could get rephased (medical) or reverted into a later week of training. We'll keep a positive thought though that everyone will graduate together on Nov 24th! :-)

Thanks Katie, good to know. We had heard Cape May was seasonal.
we are waiting to purchasing airfare until the 5th week per the recruiter's suggestion just in case...so being a holiday...we may be out of luck with flights and prices too i am afraid. Hoping to get a letter from our son soon so we can gage what is happening. Has anyone else heard from their recruit yet?

katie said...

Thank you USCG in CM for the excellent info. Always open to more advice and suggestions.
As far as lodging goes I think the ONLY one I missed was the CongressHall...looks beautiful! Wildwood may go on its way to being cancelled!
I am optimistic but realistic in knowing that anything can happen. Think I'd rather have to cancel a room than to look for one at the last minute. Just my personal preference. Fortunately for us we are on the east coast and have the option of driving it.
Havent heard from our son yet but imagine we will eventually when he gets a second. Then again, this is the same kid who asked me what stationery was when he was looking at the "to bring" list. :-) haha

My brother in law informed me that yesterday (Sunday) was the first opportunity they would have to write. That is only if they have everything squared away though. Writing and receiving letters is a privilege they have to earn not a right. So, if they had the chance to write than I would assume we would get letters by the end of this week, early next week.

Just a thought. We already booked our tickets bc with the airline we booked with it would be a $100 fee per person if the date had to be changed. We thought that they would be a much better deal than paying $600+ a ticket or possibly not getting a ticket at all due to selling out. Thanksgiving is a very hard time of year to travel but this date is one that cannot be missed!!

Thank you for the heads up about military discounts on the hotel, I didn't even think of that.

SR Evaristus

I am very happy to find this blog. My husband is at Cape May and I am really missing him more and more everyday. I am wishing him all the best. I know that this will be hard but I am sure they will make it through. I will keep watching this blog for updated information.

Marianne said...

Thank you USCG CM for the hotel tips, i went online to both and they are beautiful venues, the Grand Hotel is a little pricier than the Congress Hall, both are ocean front, both have availability at this time but after questioning neither one offers a CG or military discount unfortunately :-( The rooms in Congress Hall range from $99 for 2 Q beds no view, to $159 for 2 Q with an ocean view and then on up for various options. You are right Jamiella, too important to miss, and the extra to change flight if needed is a good idea, one way or the other we will be there too, looking forward to seeing our recruit and meeting all of you!

Don't do it Bethany. See page 6 of the Helmsman, all food, consumables are contraband.

Jamie - hang in there. I know it is hard. I am missing my husband like crazy too. They will not get a phone call until week 5. As far as I know it is a very short one too.

I didn't do it, but someone else might have. I hope they haven't sent it yet.

Hello Mike 182 family & friends. No cookies were mailed so everyone is safe. I know how those one for all, all for one reprimands go. I look forward to meeting a lot of you the week of November 24.

Bill said...

1 week down, 6 weeks to go. Looking at the blogs and journals of other companies to get a perspective of what Mike 182 is doing this first week, I have noticed families comments that they receive their first letters on or about the 10th day after arrival. We should start to see them this Friday. Good Luck to all!

USCG in CM said...

Definitely no on the baked goods! That also goes for sports score print outs or newspaper articles and musical cards. All pictures have to be shown to the CC's so make sure they are appropriate. :-)
Letters are written on Sunday's during divine hours so you should receive your first letters this week.

Hi Everyone!
I had been wondering if the recruits would be allowed to read these blogs. Thanks for clearing that up USCG in CM! We're out in Hawaii and find it will be really hard to make it way over there to Cape May for our son's Graduation. It's a once-in-a-lifetime event, so still hoping. Is anyone else from Hawaii planning to make the trip? Oh, Katie - my son also questioned the stationary on the 'to bring' list. Hope he can make use of the tablet, 40 envelopes and 2 books of stamps he decided to pack. :) Take care everyone!

Hi all,
Well we received our General Information letter today. It was postmarked Oct.9 and considering there was no mail delivery yesterday, it got here pretty quick.
USCG in CM, thank you again for the information and tips that you pass on to the families. It is most definitely appreciated.
Good luck to all....hope those letters find their way to your mailbox soon! WOW!! a reason to get excited about mail delivery

Which do you recommend for flights?
Atlantic City or Philadelphia

coastie09 said...

Some recruits will be able to if they know where to look and are in the learning resource center. Some company commanders read the blogs to the recruits. Sometimes others have no clue that families are even writing them on this. I know I didn't when I was in basic and I just graduated on Sep. 11th.
SN Galvin

USCG in CM said...

Diana-
Atlantic City is definitely closer (about 35 minutes) but has limited flights. It's small so it's much easier to get in and out of compared to Philly. Philadelphia airport is about an hour and 20 minutes. I would go with whichever one has the best deal! Hope this helps!

Unknown said...

I got my introduction letter on yesterday too. I was glad to receive it. I hope to have a letter from my husband very soon.

Coastie Parent said...

Hi Marianne,

It's nice to hear from another parent. Our son is older, was in the Navy for 4 years & when he got out missed the ocean so he thought the Coast Guard would be a good fit. The first time they are away it is hard, but gets easier each time & also it helped me to think what a great thing our recruits are doing, how many other young adults wouldn't or couldn't choose to do it. Also we focus on when we will see them & the great adventure that awaits them after boot camp. Thanksgiving will be here before you know it. Good luck waiting.

Unknown said...

Does anyone know what type of transportation, other than a rental car, that will be available from Philadelphia to Cape May?

coastiemombarker said...

Jamiella, I saw somehwere that there is bus transportation from Philly to Cape May.
Hello to Mike 182 families and recruits (if they let you see this blog). My son is just turning 19 and I couldn't be prouder of his choice for his future.I didn't realize how much I would miss him.
Can't wait until Thanksgiving. I think we will all be very thankful this year. Mike 182 do yourselves proud!!!

Marianne said...

Hey Coastie Parent,
Welcome and it has been good to listen and chat with all of Mike 182's people. The words of encouragement are things i am thinking, the questions are some i am wondering and i am thrilled to have found this site prior to my general info letter arriving. Everyone's experiences are helpful to know. We are breathing a little easier as the time goes by, not so sure our recruit can say the same but i am hoping his letter will ease our minds some, hoping it is more than a one liner, but we will happily take what we get LOL. We are very proud to be a part of the US Coast Guard family now. So proud of our son and have great respect for the choices he's made. Can't wait to meet all of you.

Hello Mike 182 Family & Friends:

SR David Dilbeck is my son-in-law. I am a former Marine. I cannot tell you how much letters mean to recruits during boot camp. Periodically I would write letters to other young men and other branches. I am very impressed with the Coast Guard, they are very much on top of this. Write, send those cards and let them know how proud of them you are, how excited you are they are serving their country, and how much they need to listen to their Coast Guard Leaders. They will be home soon. Let's pray for them all. --JC Bowman

A few questions for USCG in CM,
or anyone else who happens to know,
Can I send my recruit extra stamps? He did not take a lot with him, he was hoping he could get what he needed at the exchange/px while there. Can he get extra envelopes, stationary there etc? Not sure if it would be a problem though if I sent...
Also, once graduated, as a Reserve, does CG pay for their flight home? We are not sure if we should purchase his also when we make our arrangements and if so, does CG fly him out of Philly or can we fly him out of another airport if we choose?
thanks for any info.

USCG in CM said...

Marianne,

Yes, your recruit can have stamps sent to them. They are able to visit the exchange periodically to get other items that they need including stationary and envelopes.
Transportation and travel for your recruits (active and reserve) will be set up and paid for by the CG prior to graduation.
Hope this helps!

We have a USCG in CM blogging with us so I'm sure if there was anything to worry about he/she would inform us. Is everyone planning to attend graduation?
If so any interest in a little meet/greet? Maybe that is what the breakfast is for. I'm not sure we'll make it to breakfast, we are
actually staying in Atlantic City so we will be driving down the morning of graduation. Any thoughts? I know we all want to spend time with our loved ones but
I would love to meet the men/women that endured boot camp, forming Mike 182.

J Fearn,
That is a tough one, it is a long flight, but done safely every day.
I hope you find the strength to face your fears. You have time to work it out, Good Luck.
nshelbyj,
i guess it could have been your husband, did he go to Montgomery first?

Diana said...

USCG in CM,
Did I read that correctly? The CG sets us and pays for his trip home? I thought maybe from base to base but home after graduation? I have already purchased his ticket home (SR Johnson, Chris) Please advise.

Anonymous said...

I have already purchased my husbands ticket home too.

Marianne - No, he didn't go to Montgomery first. Must not have been him.

USCGinCM - Do you know if there is anyway to find out about extra testing that was done? My husband said he had to have extra bloodwork and urine tests done in his letter and I wanted to make sure everything was ok.

USCG in CM said...

Transportation is set up via the transportation coordinator. Travel arrangements from Cape May will be made during training. Right now it's to early for them to set anything up because there is always the possibility of a rephasial (medical reason) or a reversion (disciplinary reason). I'm not sure if anything can be done if you already purchased a ticket for your recruits - he/she will be able to find out later in training. It's my understanding that if you have purchased tickets for yourself they can try to get your recruit on the same flight.

USCG in CM said...

nshelbyj-
I don't know anything about what happens at medical. Unfortunately your recruit will have to update you on that. They do lots of testing through this whole process so I would say try not to worry and hopefully he will give you update soon. :-)

Diana said...

I purchased and set up flights so that he could return on the same flight. Flights from Atlantic City to Ft. Lauderdale are very limited and compound that with Thanksgiving week. I set up and paid for his flight so that I would not have to drive an hour to pick him up at the airport. I also have a government job and days off at that time of year were an issue. I knew you had a travel coordinator on base but I would rather pay the extra fees to change the flight than wait and find out no flights were available or had become unaffordable. I had already learned that lesson the hard way.

Cindy said...

Hello everyone with Mike 182

My loved one is in K182, scheduled to graduate on 11/13- and it is encouraging to see how involved you are on this page! I do have one question for USCG at CM, I received a letter yesterday saying My recruit has the opportunity to do "Honor Guard" in Alexandria, Virginia, He didn't explain much about it besides that it would be a 2 year commitment- can you tell me more about what that is?

katie said...

Well, no letter yesterday from my son but I DID receive a jury duty summons! Lucky me... Anyway, my date to report is Nov. 16. I am going to call the court clerk tomorrow and ask about getting the date changed. I am afraid that if I get accepted to a trial that it may run into the next week which is graduation week. Depending on what the clerk says,I may need to go before the court on Nov.12 to state my case as to why I need it changed. I'll find out tomorrow. Hope they see this as a valid reason to switch dates.Havent been called in 19 years...figures its this particular time.

Recruits are 'recruited' to do the honor guard based on many different types of criteria like military bearing and height requirements. It is a selection process and not everyone meets the strict criteria. Best of luck to him - it seems like it would be an awesome experience.

Well it finally cooled off in Florida. It is about 60 degrees here today. My home page is on weather.com set on Cape May now so I can see how the weather is there everyday. It says 46 today with rain so feels like 37. I hope they are issued some warm clothes. My son did take long johns since they were suggested on the list but of course he did argue with me the necessity, as I said we are from Florida so he has no idea that you could need long johns for anything. Bet he's glad now. No letter yet but I will keep waiting patiently. I live in Jupiter, Florida, about 2 hours south of Orlando and 1 1/2 hours north of Miami (on the east coast). To the lady who doesn't fly, neither do I so I can really relate to your dilemma. I am going to Cape May by train. That's right, the old fashioned Amtrak train.

We checked into the train also, but from California it would take three days to get there and she's only home for five and i want to spend every second with her:) Thank you Marianne for your encouragement!

Wow, that is incredible. Really small world. I work at Jupiter High. What is her name? Maybe I'll see her and we can commiserate. Is she the girlfriend of the son in Mike 182? Are you traveling to CM for grad? We are traveling by train. I wonder if Mike 182 recruts get to see any of our comments. If they do, SON (SR SACOO, write home. I'm worried to distraction. I know your strong and probably kicking butt. I miss you terribly. Make good use of your time, respect your cc, work as a team with MIke 182 and remember YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Your awesome. Hello from Louisiana! What about those New Orleans Saints (5-0)!!

We are still waiting for a letter from our recruit. I have faith that I will receive a letter tomorrow!

I have enjoyed reading your messages and I have gather strenght from all of you.

My family is missing our recruit. Words can not express how proud we are that our son is part of the USCG.

We can not wait to meet everyone in November.

My husband and I purchased my son's plane ticket home on Oct 16th, we thought it was a small price to pay to guarantee a seat for our son on the plane trip home.

Hoping everyone stays strong.

Blessings from Harry & JoAnn Casey

We received our postcard on Saturday! It was mailed on 10/13, so took 4 days to make it to Hawaii. My son seems very positive - he says "it's really different here but I kinda like it. Our CC is pretty nice and I'm just trying to stay under the radar." Seems like there wasn't much time to write. But, I was so happy to hear from him and that he was doing so well. We're SO, SO proud!! The picture on the post card was beautiful!

Debbie said...

Dear USCG in CM,
Do you have any suggestions on how I could contact the other parents from HAWAII? So far, none of them have written a blog here. I know there were 4 other recruits that left here with my son. I just wanted to touch base with someone who might be traveling to NJ for the graduation. Thank you so much for your support here. You have been such a wonderful connection and a huge comfort for all of us families!!!

Diana,
What is your son's name?
My son is Joey Barker Sacco.
Are you heading up to Cape May for graduation? I am going via auto train. I don't fly. It seems like Mike 182 has quite a few Florida guys along with many other places.
I've seen, TN, Hawaii, Ca, Washignton. I wonder who will end up going back to their home state and who won't. I believe my son will not come back to Florida. He wants to see the world.

Diana said...

Coastie Mom Barker:
My son is Christopher Johnson. I think he will come back eventually, but also wants to see the world. I will be flying to Cape May along with my husband and daughter. There were about 20 recruits sworn and shipped out to various branches of the military the day he left. There was one young man from Hawaii but I imagine most were local. Seems that several others joined them in Philly.

coastiemombarker said...

Diana,
I know exactly who your son is. He stood next to my son at the swearing in. He was justto the left of my son in the front row.
I believe we had 11 from our area sworn in and shipped out 10/6.
Good luck to Chris and congratulations to you and your family. I know you are proud to be a parent of a coastie as am I. It will be nice to meet you at graduation.

Cape May, NJ 08204-5083

I have written everyday since OCT 4th, and have not had a "kicked back" letter. I thought he would have receieved at least one of my letters by now. He says that other guys have "stacks of letters," but he hasn't gotten one of mine. Is it practice to hold the guy's letters until they do well? He said he completed the swim test on the first attempt, but that he currently sick... I'm just wondering... I know it would lift his spirits tremendously if he would get some of my letters (if they even made it to NJ).

Thanks so much for your time!

I do not think that they will not receive their mail if their last name is not first, take a look at the top of this page, the original post from the USCG states:
Please send letters of support to:
SR (FIRST AND LAST NAME)
RECRUIT COMPANY M182/James Hall
USCG TRACEN CAPE MAY
ONE MUNRO AVE
CAPE MAY NJ 08204-5083
and that is how we have mailed ours.

Coastie09 where are you, says you just completed boot camp, can you shed some light here with the mail?

Debbie said...

USCG in CM,
Do you think that a recruit may not receive their mail if we don't address it with the last name first? The original post for Mike 182 just said "SR (First and Last Name)". I hope he's gotten our letters!

I have enjoyed this blog and the message boards at uscg.org are very helpful. There is a family forum there and has a lot of very useful information and suggestions.
We are similiar to quite a few here in that our son just turned 19(Oct. 3) and is a recent high school graduate (2009). Andrew left from Atlanta with 3 other recruits.
Look forward to the information exchange here and meeting all of you November 24th!

I am thinking about my recruit and all of Mike 182 heavily today. Weather says it is 61 degrees, cloudy and windy, and today is officially the end of their second week. I can only imagine the schedule they have had to adjust to, how much they have learned already and how far they have come from the night they got off the bus. I am wishing you all Godspeed in coming together as a company. Only 4 and a 1/2 short weeks to go! You can do it!

I have just made travel arrangements for my son and I. I have decided to come with him to graduation. We are so excited and proud of SR Kristin Archard and all of Mike 182.

As of Sunday she had not received any of our letters and we have written MANY since we got the address. Perhaps the mail is just slow from some places. I am sure they would not withhold mail as the chaplains letter encouraged all to write to help boost morale. I am sure she will get a pile this week.

Hang in there families! It is great to hear the encouraging comments from the other trainees!

Hi Bill and other Mike 182 families,
I haven't seen USCG in CM respond to any questions lately. Maybe we lost our blogger contact. But as you mentioned, if anyone is monitoring this I'm sure we would all REALLY appreciate a picture or two from Mike 182 company. This blog has been a great support for us all. Can't wait to get another letter and soon a phone call.
By the way, does anyone know if any of the Mike 182 recruits were reverted or rephased? I noticed the new journal says 86 recruits but we started with 89. Wondering what happened to the other 3. Hope everyone is ok. I'm assuming we would be notified so I won't worry too much. Good luck to everyone in Mike 182 company and families. We are almost 1/2 way there.
See you at graduation.

SR McCurdy Just think how quickly the last 3 weeks have gone by! I've made my flight reservation for your graduation as they are filling up quickly and getting more expensive. Should I make a flight reservation for you to fly home with us on Wed. for Thanksgiving? It will be more difficult and expensive the longer I wait. How are others planning their travel arrangements? Is there someone on base that will make those reservations? Will you get a service discount? Does anyone have the answers? Missing you, can't wait to see you. Love,Mom and Frank

ALICE McCURDY:

I found this info on the Coast Guard website:

MY RECRUIT CALLED ME AND ASKED ME TO PURCHASE PLANE TICKETS FOR HIM/HER TO COME HOME ON LEAVE AT THE CONCLUSION OF BOOT CAMP.
We highly recommend that recruits work with the SATO travel agent that is located here at the training center to get home and to their new unit.
Since the recruit has limited phone privileges and time, it’s easier on all parties if the recruit works directly with the SATO travel agent.
However, family members who are attending the graduation and have already purchased tickets can send their recruit the information by mail. The recruit can then work with the travel agent to get on the same flight, if it is available.

Hope it helps.

Marianne said...

Christopher's Family,
On Oct 15th, the USCG in CM blogger that was commenting on this site with us at one time did say that...

"Transportation and travel for your recruits (active and reserve) will be set up and paid for by the CG prior to graduation."

he or she also said in a later post that they will work with your recruit to try to get them on the same return flight as the family if possible, to sent that info to your recruit. This being so close to the holiday it may be difficult to find seats on same flights. We are still waiting to make arrangements, don't want to have to buy those tickets 2x!
Good luck.

I cant wait to find out where he will be stationed.Hopefully it will be close to home for the first assignment!Only 3 weeks and 5 days left.Good luck Mike 182!!

Hi all;
We also received a letter from our son. He sounds awesome!! He said that "the morale of our company is a lot higher than in previous weeks and its only getting better". GO MIKE 182!!!
Thursdays have now become my favorite day of the week because thats when the Cape May mail arrives. He did ask for us to "please" (3 times) to bring him a diet coke for him to have after graduation. I think we will be able to manage that small detail!
Thanks Alina for the countdown!!!
Soon enough we will all be gathered in Cape May to celebrate with pride and joy this long awaited day!

I finally got the nerve and booked our flight reservations. We are counting on our recruit graduating on time. It will be so crowded in the friendly skies that week but so worth it. I sent a copy of our flight schedule to our recruit, SR Dilbeck, so hopefully he can get the SATO travel agent to match our travel arrangements. It is getting so much closer. Cape May looks beautiful from all the pictures I have seen. We can't wait to see him and everything else..

Well , received another letter today , actually it was to his lil brother. He has been waiting on his ( he writes to him every wednesday nite ) Thinking about the airline travel that week is giving me a headache . I am upbeat about what is said in M182's journal . Reading other companys , some of them have had their share of problems it seems . Hopefully our guys ( and Gals ) are pulling together and working hard as one on every project , task , and assignment . Cant wait to read their next journal entry .

God Bless Texas &
God Bless MIKE182 !!

Anyone know when to expect our 1st call?
I think it is next weekend but I don't know if it should be Saturday or Sunday.By then, they may know where they will be stationed for their 1st duty. It is getting really exciting. Can't wait until graduation. Time is flying. I hope all Mike 182 company is doing well and striving forward.

My letter yesterday was so great...SR Mansfield sounds very happy with the way things are going for Mike 182 One thing she asked me to do was to send her a copy of the Journal pages, she would like to read them, so just wanted to let you know maybe your recruits would like to read them as well. I booked my trip for the graduation this morning...I will fly into Philly on 21st and drive into Cape May on the 22nd staying at Congress Hall...So excited to see my girl and all of Mike 182

They should get to call on Saturday of their fifth week. They have about two minutes to talk so stay near your phone. Our son is ahead of yours in Kilo

In regards to your daughter requesting the journal page prints; I would be hesitant to do so until cleared by someone in command at the training center. What we think might be okay to send may not be okay to send in the commanders eyes. It may be okay by them; it may not be. See USCG at CM posting re: some items NOT to send and they seemed pretty harmless to me.
Maybe someone out there knows if it is okay to print and send the journal pages. I dont but just erring on the side of caution for what its worth.

That was tried in my sons unit which is Kilo and they were told not to send anything including pictures, newspaper clippings, copies of journal entries, musical cards or care packages with food. Your recruit does have access to a computer if they choose to use it when they earn their on-base liberty usually in week six.

Katie,
My recruit requested the journals also, however I will not send it for fear the whole company may have to pay. I also saw the posting that newspapers, etc. where a no-no. Please reconsider.

Sorry,

Hello families of Mike 182,
Received a nice, long letter from my son today. It sounds like Mike 182 is starting to learn some exciting new stuff (Seamanship and Firefighting)and make some life long friendships. My son says he has made alot of new cool friends. (He just turned 19)He didn't tell me where he is thinking of requesting on his "dream sheet" but did tell me he chose BM rating.
He is looking forward to getting his orders for his first assignment. I can't wait to talk to him. It should be within a week or so, I think. Oh, by the way he did mention that they did not receive any mail until Oct 21st.
Keep sending those letters, it sounds like they all look forward to mail delivery. Good luck and looking forward to graduation. Only about 3+ weeks left to go.

Hello,
My daughter is in Lima 182 and I got my call today @ 10:46 AM CT. I was told it would probably be the afternoon but it was in the morning so I am glad I had my phone with me. She called my cell with her pre-paid phone card. If I were you, I would just keep my cell with me beginning Thursday of next week, just to be safe. From what I understand, it could be anytime from Thursday to Saturday, depending on when they receive their orders. It was a short, 3 minute phone call, emotional but good. Good luck!

Debbie: SR Max Richardson is my son and I will be traveling from Hawaii (Kauai) for the graduation.

I am renting a car and a room in Cape May on the 23rd.
Anyone wanting to share costs, please let me know.
(It's very expensive for me traveling from Hawaii.)

My son sent a letter saying that he must have his wisdom teeth removed. I am wondering if this will take place during boot camp? Surely not...
