RECRUIT JOURNALS
Journals are posted to USCGBOOTCAMP by close of business every Tuesday. The first journal for each company is posted in week three of training.
If a journal entry is not posted, it means one of two things, the company is in week one or two of training or the Web master did not receive a submission.
The journals were created to provide family and friends with a peek into the lives of their recruits. The recruit historians try to document the experiences of the company not individual recruits.
We hope you enjoy reading the journals and experiencing Coast Guard Recruit Training through the eyes of our Guardians in the making.
This is an official United States Coast Guard posting for the Public's information.
Our posting does not endorse this site or anything on it, including links to other sites,
and we disclaim responsibility and liability for the site and its content.

Hello November 182
It looks like my son ( SR Cornelius ) will be joining N182 from Mike 182 . He injured his shoulder and is being rephased . Good thing the airline tickets havent been purchased yet . He called his mom to tell her tonight . A quick 4 minute call , but she said he sounded upbeat . Ya'll needed more members anyway . hehehe . I guess on the bright side , I'll have some more time to work on his jeep before he graduates...Looking foward to Dec 4th now .

Hello All,
I looked at the Mike 182 blog before November 182's was up and running. There was a Coast Guard member commenting on their blog and one of the things he said is that the recruits can't see any of this blog, it is more for friends and family for support. Does anybody know if this is true?
SR Morales
Week-4, you're half way there bud! I looked at the pictures with the knot tying and thought of you as a young boy scout. Brought a smile. Not sure what R.A.M.P is but I'm anxious to hear all about everything. Stay focused and know that we are sending you love and encouragement from home. We will see you soon.
Love Mom
SR Rohleder, Gary Michael

Yes, it is true. The recruits do not read these blogs. However they have an opportunity to do so during their liberty that they earn in week 6 or 7 so keep the positive feedback coming. This blog site is also a great opportunity for company parents and spouses to share feelings and create friendships, so keep doing so. Try reading other company blogs and journals to find out what your coastie is doing. HOTEL 182 had a great journal. My son will be graduating from KILO next week.
Good news today . Received a letter in the mail today , my son said his shoulder was ok now and he was released back into N182 @100%.. He was real upbeat in his letter and was ready to get back to work . SR cornelius , stay strong and work hard...... Dec 4th will be here before ya know it
God Bless Texas &
God Bless N182

We've already made all our reservations for graduation - can't wait to see you!! Love reading the journal - hope everyone is feeling better. Sure wish we could say THANKS to all the families at Cape May for opening up their homes to our Recruits on Thanksgiving. Dad & I always invited the single guys who were stationed with us to spend the holidays with our family if they weren't able to go home. Faith, Family and Friends - it doesn't get any better. Anyway, we miss you lots!!
Love Mom & Dad

Hello other parents I got a letter from SR Huntre Sellers last night that stated he would find out his duty station yesterday (Thursday) but would call in week 06. I am promised by the recruiter we would get a call in 05 but I think there may be some problems with some not responding to the CC so I don't know if this is the reason for us not getting a call til week 06. Will let you all know if I here anything else. SR Sellers said he had a good friend name DAVE anyone on the blogs with a son by that name I would love to talk with you.
Stay stong N182
I hear from my son that some more pictures with the chief of staff and command master chief may be posted so keep an eye out. I hope so.
Heard from our son earlier tonight via phone. He sounded great and got his first request for posting. Hope all the other family members are getting their calls too!

Chris called this mroning as we were coming out of Church. It was so great to hear his voice, I was trying not to cry as we talked. He got his assignment - Seattle Washington on the Polar Sea! He is very excited. We live in Brunswick, Georgia. To me, that is the other side of the world. He is happy and excited about his new life w/ the Coast Guard, so if he is happy and excited then so am I. Chris was in the front row on ESPN First Take. My son-in-law got reverted back to this recruiting unit. Does anyone have a recruit going to Traverse City, Michigan Air Station?
SR V Burnette
Great job shorty..
If any parents taped the Veteran's Day Special on ESPN2 and could bring a copy to graduation. I was unable to tape it or watch. I was hoping for a nice birthday present. I will be happy to pay for the tape. Thanks, Veronica's mom.
SR V Burnette
TO Bethanybowman
My daughter is being sent to Charlevoix, MI which is not far from Traverse City. DO you have any information about housing or anything. Are there barracks, there, etc.

SR Chris Slaughter
13 days until graduation!! Hang in there and remember to give it your all. Teamwork is what it is all about! Stay strong and focused. It will all be worth it come December 4th. See ya soon.
Miss Ya & Love Ya,
Mom
Vanessa and others - As far as I know there are very few Coast Guard Barracks anywere except on the a few large stations. Most everyone has to live "on the economy." This website should help you:
http://www.uscg.mil/hq/capemay/recruit/recruittraining.asp > Unit Information Sheets > Geographical Map of Units > Great Lakes Area > Location
You should find an information sheet with contact info. I actually called the housing person at Airsta Traverse Station and he said they had to get a place to live. He said they should assign a “buddy” to your recruit where they are stationed. I believe they will pay for the move. (A few recruits may actually live on the ship.) We are still a little up in the air about details but that should help you a little.
The website didn't print correctly:
http://www.uscg.mil/hq/capemay/recruit/
recruittraining.asp > Unit Information Sheets > Geographical Map of Units > Great Lakes Area > Location
Thanks for the information bethanybowman.I am so confused. Don't know what to do. Hopefully, my daughter will call me on Thanksgiving with with some details. Have you made any arrangements yet?
Yes, we had tickets/rooms paid for and had to change it all since our recruit got reverted. However, since we are no longer traveling during the Thanksgiving holiday, the CG travel person was easily able to get our recuit on our flight back home with us. Exactly what happens then, I am unsure except he has to report for duty (wife in tow) on December 12, I believe.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL THE PROUD MOMS, DADS AND ALL FAMILY MEMBERS OF NOVEMBER 182!!!
We are coming down the home stretch.
SR Chris Slaughter's Mom
Well guys just one more week and we will have this wraped up. I can't wait to meet everyone and see all of the recruits (looking so nice in their uniforms). I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and we will see all of you next week. WOW it's over.

Soo proud of November 182!Our son SR Pete Tomlin called last Saturday and asked us to come visit while he was on liberty. We have a house in New Jersey so we hopped on the Parkway and met him along with a few other buddies. They looked sharp. We met Chris Slaughter, and what a nice young man he is, his parents should be proud. We took them both out for lunch and they told us of their experiences and their assignments. So exciting. Hope to meet Chris' parents at Graduation on Friday, can't wait.
