Welcome aboard! I am the Mom of a Mike182 graduate. (Nov 26-seems like yesterday) The recruits don;t get to see these comments until about week 6 or 7, and only if they take the initiative to look for it online when they get computer privileges. WRITE TO THEM EVERYDAY! My son said "mail" was the highlight of their days/nights/weeks. They all get very close and share news/stories with the entire company. Stay strong, be proud. Any questions, feel free to email me. coastiemombarker@comcast.net
(8 weeks really does fly by after about week 3)

A question for the USCG in CM:

In the information letter on page 2 re: allowances: "most recruits will receive a $500 pay advance prior to graduation to assist with travel arrangements to their leave address and travel to their first duty assignment" Does that mean they have to pay and make arrangements to get to their first assignment?

It's snowing here! The temps have been pretty mild :)... OK I did not write to talk about the weather LOL.
I was able to go to see your sister this week, I was there for Elias 1 month day! He is doing good and so is everyone else!

After you left I went to AZ. My Uncle Bob is in the hospital, not sure if he will make it. It does not look good but I am glad I was able to go down and see him.

Megan came and ate dinner with dad and me, then we watched a movie and she stayed the night. it is always good to have her around! :) ... I am thinking maybe this week I can get Adam and Caryn (along with Megan) over for dinner... Maybe even have the girls help me cook! Sounds like fun!!!

We are all pretty much doing the same thing, Everyone misses you, even the cats! Since you left they have been sneeking in and sleeping with dad and me., Speaking of the cats, I broke down and bought some wieght control food for Sugar! I hope to get her to a healthy size :)

We are all so proud of you! We have ALWAYS been PROUD of you! I know you will have had some trying moments by the time you get this,,, but I hope you were able to look at all the positive things, to know you are serving a purpose and your country! I can't tell you how much comfort I get knowing that you and MANY others like you are serving. I feel HONORED!!!
Everyone has asked me to send you their love. I will try to get an address to them soon!
I love you very much,,, stand tall and remember to lean on our Lord. He will always be there whether you feel you need him or not. HE WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU!

Well, you have been at it for a couple of weeks now, so I am certain that you have come to the realization that; (1)you really didn't know the proper way to spread up your bunk; (2)you can press a razor sharp crease into your shirts and pants;(3) you eat your meals when you are told and not when you wish; (4)most importantly, how to properly address the Master Chief! Hang in there kiddo...Time will pass and you will have learned so much from this experience. Their goal is to make sure they have quality people on their team. You are there for a reason. You are a strong, determined person. I am so very proud of you. Some things will be for you to learn, others will be for you to teach. Right now just focus on the learning side. Absorb as much as you can. When all is said and done you will be standing there as a graduate, proud and accomplished.

Hang tough my son. I know you are going through tremendous tests of character and strength. If you come across a task that seems impossible to do, remember you have the strength within you to accomplish anything you put your mind to. You may have to dig way down in the depths of your being, but there you will find what you are looking for. Please know that you mom, dad, and brother and sister love you and we are so very proud of you. Go SR Andrew STokes!! Go Whiskey 182!!

Well, you young men and women have been at this for 4 weeks, so I am certain that you have learned quite a bit about each other. I feel certain that one very important issue you have come to realize is that to succeed, you must rely heavily on the strengths of each other. I would believe that a small few, who do not share this concept of teamwork, have eliminated themselves, although many other of you made vane attempts to bring them back to this reality. The most difficult portion of your basic training, adjustment to military regimentation, is almost behind you, however, due to the nature of the career path you have chosen, your lives will be changed forever. Always remember this-"there is no I in team"! Irregardless of where your future takes you, you will never forget your basic training experiences or those who endured the pain and misery with you! May God bless each and every one of you, and your families, for the sacrifice and committment you have made to yourselves and to Country! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!!

If it were, everyone would do it. You have joined the fraternity of Waters men who have served their country in every military conflict since the Civil War. You will soon make your mark on this world. It will be far greater than I ever could. It will be a priviledge and an honor to present you with your Graduation Certificate on Friday. In just one more day your dad, sister, mimi, and I will board a plane and fly to watch, and your shipmates, graduate. I can't express the pride that I feel inside. I am so excited to see you; talk to you face to face; look in your eyes! I know, as I am sure all the other Whiskey 182 parents do as well, that our Country will truly be protected in your capable hands. I know you have suffered, sweated, been tested, and tried, home sick and just plain sick but you and your company have started the beginning of a very challenging and rewarding career. I stand proud to call my son a Guardian. May God continue to keep you strong and safe (mentally, physically, spirtually, emotionally) I will see you in two days, and I will be proud of you FOREVER!

I love you son;
Mom, Dad & Samantha

p.s. whomever is the voice for Whiskey 182 weekly has done a fabulous job in keeping the families very updated with what has happened daily with the company. I applaud him/her and say thank you! Thank you for allowing me to feel just a little bit closer to my son during basics. During the weeks that we felt "muted" there was a voice that gave us a daily idea of life for our loved one. Thank you for such a wonderful job!

SR Garret Hafer,

Hey there, it's Cindy. Michael had surgery on his detached hamstrings (3 of them) today and is home recovering. I don't know if Megan told you he injured them playing hockey. He'll be in recovery and PT for a while. I'm in a hand cast from falling going into the Sitzmark at Alyeska. Tore a ligament in my hand and we look like a Motley crew. Megan is chomping at the bit to get on the plane. We are so proud of you and miss you a bunch. Saw a white ford pickup today and got a little sad. Love you!
