RECRUIT JOURNALS
Journals are posted to USCGBOOTCAMP by close of business every Tuesday. The first journal for each company is posted in week three of training.
If a journal entry is not posted, it means one of two things, the company is in week one or two of training or the Web master did not receive a submission.
The journals were created to provide family and friends with a peek into the lives of their recruits. The recruit historians try to document the experiences of the company not individual recruits.
We hope you enjoy reading the journals and experiencing Coast Guard Recruit Training through the eyes of our Guardians in the making.
This is an official United States Coast Guard posting for the Public's information.

Two and a half days and we will be there to watch our loved ones graduate. Yankee 180 you are amazing and we are so proud! Thank you for all the pictures, video's and journals, it is so nice to have that update while they were away.
I know that if I didnt have the journals, the pics, and the movies that I would be so extremely depressed waiting for graduation. They have helped so much getting through these long 2 months and now its finally the end, only a couple more days until we get our loved ones back. I can not wait, I am so proud of you J.R. and I love you soooo much! Great job Yankee-180!
Thank you so much for the journal entries, pictures, and video. Only 2 more days and a wake-up Yankee 180 !!!! We are so proud of you and can't wait to see you show your stuff.
I would like to extend a special thank you to the US Coast Guard and Commanders for your dilligent efforts in bringing Cape May, NJ and Yankee 180 to us via the internet.
I know that the web blog and the posting of journals is not an essential task but it has helped
us know that value of family and core values that are so very important to us as well as allows us to share a once in a life time experience with our loved ones.
Kindest Regards,
My thanks to the United States Coast Guard for all of the journal entries, pictures and video clips. It has been nice to feel a small part of these young people's journey. I am looking forward to meeting some of you or at least seeing you from the bleachers. With prayers for safe travel to all who are traveling in the next few days.
1 day until we fly to jersey. What an exciting adventure we are about to endure. I am so excited to witness and be apart of such a memorable event! I too thank everything.. but i am extremely grateful that they guys pulled through and worked together!
This is our last journal entry as our plane leaves today at noon. Thanks again to everyone for writing and sharing and especially to the USCG for enabling us to keep up with our recruits activities through the website's journals, pictures and videos. See you all on Friday :) Safe travels everyone - Go Yankee 180!!! God bless you all.
Those of you traveling to graduation have a safe trip and see you there! Congrats Yankee-180 its been a long 2 months!
Will we be seeing a Graduation Roster for Yankee 180 like other companies have posted? I'd like to have a copy for my scrapbook.
Thanks!
We will be flying out tomorrow, love the video can't wait to see it done in person. Congratulations Yankee 180 and best of luck to you all at your first station!
Have a safe trip to graduation! Good luck in your futures Yankee 180 :)
Greetings - The roster for Yankee 180 will be posted the Tuesday following graduation.
Well we are here in Cape May, bring warm clothes if you are from the west coast, burrr. It's a quaint little town with beautiful homes. I can only imagine what it must be like in the summer with the tremendous amount of accomodations here. It seems strange knowing our son is so close and we can't see him yet. We met a young man with a Yankee-179 sweatshirt on this morning! He said he had trained with our Yankees this morning and they were doing great. Hope to see and meet some of you on Friday morning at breakfast.
We are at the hotel by the airport, our flight leaves early in the morning and we will be in Cape May tomorrow afternoon! Hope you all have a safe trip, see you at breakfast on Friday morning!
same here. this will be my last post!! yay!! we will be in jersey tomorrow early evening eastern time. I cant wait. im here in arizona.. so i guess we will be the only ones there with snow gear on!! it was 87 today here.. haha so 40 is fareezing!. i cant wait though!! im sooooooo proud of everyone.. the recruits especially!
There are not too many places open in Cape May at this time of year! We will be at the La Mer if anyone wants to get together on Thursday nite. The Grand has a restaurant or we could go somewhere else. Look us up, Mike and Melanie Munns
We are staying at the Grand, we fly into Philly at 4:44 and we should be in Cape May by about 7:30, Let us know if anyone is wanting to get together. John & Chris Peak
Last post! Im leaving at 1:30am to catch my 6:00am flight to philly. Im staying at the Camelot Motel! Im so excited for graduation and to see my fiance. Congrats yankee-180! You did it and now its time to begin a new chapter in life! Good luck to all!
Hey, Mike and Melanie... We're staying here at the LeMer also. We just swung by the Ballyhoo Restaurant at the Grand. The front desk wasn't sure you could order off the menu tonight and the buffet is $24. That's a little steep for us and too much food, because I am pushing it to get into my uniform for tomorrow :). May we make another suggestion? One of the other companies is already planning a get together at the Ugly Mug downtown on the walking mall. This looked like it might be a pretty good place to meet. Let us know if this sounds good to you. How does 5:30pm sound? If this doesn't work, we can perhaps meet each other at the hotel tonight?
Steve and Luanne Mansdoerfer
Steve and Luanne,
That sounds great! We will see you there. Anyone else who wants to join us please do. We want to share the excitement of seeing our son tomorrow. We are at the La Mer room 434 now.
Mike and Melanie Munns
Mike and Melanie...
If you are up for it, we'll drop on by your room...
Steve and Luanne
Steve and Luanne,
Come on over :)
Hi everyone,
We are planning on meeting at the Ugly Mug restaurant at 6:00pm tonight. It is located at 426 Washington St. in Cape May. Hope to see you there.
I am sure you are all busy getting ready to see your loved ones, but I was just curious if ya'll are able to see the graduates the day before graduation. I was told they might be able to see us the day before and show us around? Any information would be great! Congratulations! I will be in your shoes in three weeks and I can't wait!
No, we can not see then until graduation. Graduation was AWESOME! I am so happy to have my son for a few days, we are site seeing the east coast during his leave, it is so different here than the west coast where we are from, much faster pace here! Good luck to all the recruites to come and enjoy!
I guess you can if you are there for their off base leave, the Saturday before graduation, I had forgot about that.
Back from graduation...it was awesome. As we were walking in all of a sudden you could hear Yankee 180 singing cadence...and there they were marching to the gym....I had goosebumps. I can't even describe the feeling of pride. We had a few hours and decided to have a lunch before heading to the airport. We ate at the C View Inn. Great food....great people....thank you.
As tempting as trying to see them the weekend they have off base leave I wouldn't recommend it. It's like Christmas, if you peek at your present before Christmas day you ruin the gift for yourself. When you see them marching in in full dress uniform the wait is definately worth it.
I can't describe the overwelming feelings at graduation. It was wonderful and we are so proud. Unfortunatley we had to rush out of there to catch our plane back home. We would have missed both flights but found out we had a special circumstance - Military go the the front of the line with their family! It was interesting to see how much respect and kindness was given to him with his uniform and cover on :) Well we are going to make the most of this 5 days! Thank you again Company Commanders, you did a great job! Munns is ready for the Morgenthau.
I would like to thank all of the commanders and officers for the wonderful graduation event for Yankee 180 as well as the volunteers that helped drive the bus and participated at breakfast.
We are simply grateful to all of you and very overwhelmed by such a touching experience. It was a once in a lifetime event for my family and my son. The respect that he received at the airport on the way home was unbelievable.
My son's goal is to become an officer and to retire from the US Coast Guard.
Please know that we enjoyed touring the facility. I am hopeful that future graduates and their family members will take time to let their loved ones share the pride they have for their new career by visiting the Munro Statue and Museum.
Thank You!
