SR Emms - Charlie 181 looking good in the Cape May snow. Here in Texas, it has been in the 80's for the last couple of weeks and we expect more of the same next week.

So, you know where I've been...on the golf course, of course.

Your little sister had 2 friends over yesterday after school and they went swimming.

Stay warm and see you soon,
Dad

Saturday, March 7, 9 am PST

Just got a call from our recruit. Sounded great, upbeat, and excited about the Coast Guard. Said he hated it the first 4 weeks, but now he loves it. Jazzed about his assignment to the Cutter Midget out of Seattle. Cruises to Alaska, Mexico, and Japan.

SR Coulter, I am so so very upset that I missed your call today. I cried like a baby. I did get your message but not the same as talking with you. I had been looking forward to it all week. Let us know what we can do to help you get ready to stay down there - if anything. Great to see your company, even if I can't see you individually. We are so proud of you we can't see straight. Matt C., Greetings from Lincolnville.
Yesterday was bittersweet. So sorry to have missed your phone call. Mom was teaching a class and left her phone in the office. She's been near tears all day over it.
We're very excited to hear of your accomplishments and progress. Nice going on the Sharpshooter qual. Congrats on getting into your rating school! Fantastic news! We're making plans for graduation and will see you soon. Be ready for a road trip!
Congrat's to everyone in your Company! Keep focused, Stay warm!

Got the long awaited phone call this morning! So great to hear my daughter's voice...Incredible coincidence for her, she will be stationed in St. Inigoes, MD - a VERY small town - same one her Dad was born and raised in! She has a lot of family that will be within 5miles of the station...
She's excited about tomorrow - they start firefight training. Only 19 more days - Keep up the good work Charlie 181 - we are all cheering you on!

SR Emms, it was great to speak with you Saturday. I'm glad you were able to be stationed at an Aid to Navigation Team, I know that's what you wanted.

We're glad you'll be close to home, CG ANT Sabine, TX., even though you wanted to go somewhere you've never been.

Bring lots of Mosquito repellant, you'll need it. You think they're bad here just wait until you go down to the Bayou's of TX/LA.

See you soon,
Dad

On Thursday this week we got a call from our son telling us that he is being discharged due to exercise induced asthma. Must have been the cold air that brought it on as he hasn't had a problem with it since he was 10. Needless to say he is very upset that he won't be able to graduate with Charlie 181. He made many friends, learned a great deal about himself and has the highest regard for his company commanders and the ideas of the United States Coast Guard. I salute you SR Jordan Clay and that I am so proud that you stepped up to offer your service to our country. I will miss reading your weekly journal entries as one of 2 historians for C-181. We appreciate the many details of the ups and the downs of bootcamp. Our love and prayers to you Jordan and to the members of Charlie 181-all the best!

SR Clay and the Clay family. I am so sorry to hear about Jordan.

SR Emms is my son, his mother and I were both in the Coast Guard so our family is very familiar with what it means to serve in the USCG.

I am sure Jordan is heart broken, but let me say this. Being less than 2 weeks shy of finishing Basic Training, and speaking from experience, he has accomplished the most difficult and rewarding part of a Coast Guardsman's tenure.
Trust me when I say that this time has NOT been wasted. He will carry with him the lessons learned for the rest of his life.

You also mentioned SR Clay is one of the historians. I personally want to thank him for his hard work with this task. He made the past weeks very comforting to all loved ones of Charlie 181.

SR Clay, I want to salute and thank you as well. Good luck with you future endeavors'.

It was so great talking to you today Bryan and really great that we got to talk for more than 5 minutes. You sound great and actually sound like you're haviing a good time. I'm so glad you're doing so good. I can't wait for you to call back tonight and I really can't wait till we all fly up there!!! Love, Mom

hockeymom said...

Thomas it was wonderful to hear your voice last night!! You seemed focused and strong and so much more mature than when you left. What has the Coast Guard done to you in 8 short weeks!!!! We are so very proud of your accomplishments yet you have had many challenges you have had to face. Can you believe you only have 13 more days before graduation. No matter what Mother Nature throws our way we WILL be there!!! She doesn't dare fight all the parents and family of Charlie 181!! Continue to stay strong and keep your head up and we will see you very, very soon!! We love you so much. Mom & Dad

Had a great call from my daughter yesterday....she was so happy to have some liberty and be able to hear the voices of loved ones. It sounds like Charlie 181 is coming together as a unit - can't wait to see all of them in their dress blues at graduation!
She said that getting letters has been the best part, so keep on writing - only 12 days to go!
Stay strong and healthy - we are so very proud of ALL of you.

Dear Proud Dad and former Coastie,

Thanks for your kind words of support in regard to SR Clay. Know that the entire Clay family will be, in spirit, with the entire Charlie 181 family on graduation day as you stand proud and tall. We respect and honor what C 181 has done and what they have chosen for their future. We know Jordan is a exemplary young man who has a bright future ahead of him; the Coast Guard was just not part of God's plan for him. Go Charlie 181 - Go Jo!!!!

Over and out.

Great thanks and blessing to you SR Jordan Clay and "our" other company historian for the many hours spent keeping the families in touch with our beloved recruits! You each have done a fabulous job and words can not fully express how indebted we each are to you both.

To you dear Jordan, it breaks my heart to hear that you will be leaving the company. Be proud of your extraordinary accomplishments and always know how deeply you have touched our lives not only through your journals, but in the fact you gave so freely to serve our nation! May life always be kind to you and your family and may every experience make you stronger and wiser!

Thank you so very much! :)

Had a LONG talk with my daughter yesterday...sounds like Charlie 181 is coming together! Only five more days - amazing. CC Reno had them all buffaloed into thinking he quit, according to Amelia, he wanted them to feel the disappointment that he felt when they let him down - sounds like he made his point! It was so good to hear the excitement and pride in her voice. Looking forward to meeting all of you next Friday!

Praying for your continued focus, strength, and team work in your last week Charlie. You've come a long way, I can hear there's a proud young Guardian on the other end of the phone line now, no longer the boy that left home several weeks ago. Proud of you. See you soon.

Once more... GO CHARLIE!

We are so thankful all has come full circle for Charlie Company...to hear the confidence in our guardians' raspy voice we now know all the lessons are learned and the victory has been won!...how great to get such high scores on their finals!! They are the best company and have achieved our deepest respect!! We look forward to Friday...March ON!!!!

Like all of you, we are so very proud of all new guardians (in 4 days) of Charlie 181 who have successfully made it through a tough, but rewarding training. We are looking forward to seeing them standing tall and proud on Friday at Graduation and meeting all of you! One sad sidenote-our son Mike will not be coming home with us after Graduation, but must stay behind because he has bilateral hernias and needs an operation. That phone call was a shocker! He will be operated on, on Tuesday the 31st at a hospital in Cape May Courthouse, so we will be coming back down then. He will have two weeks to recuperate at home then back to Cape May for 2 weeks light duty until he is cleared medically to report to his next duty station, which may change now.

Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. The support here has been terrific and we are grateful for this place where we could all share this memorable time in our children's lives with one another.

proud parents and sister of SR Van Gieson

Dreamchaser.....Appreciate so much your best wishes for Company "Charlie" even though your own Guardian has met a challenge that was unexpected..please know we will be praying for quick healing and strength for his journey as he recovers. God has been involved in every step and nothing gets past Him! We pray this in the name of Jesus ....

Yeah, Charlie! I knew you guys could pull it together. It's like my favorite pirate saying - "The beatings will continue until morale improves." I wish I could have been there to tough it out with you but that's neither here nor there. Just know that I miss you guys, I miss getting my butt kicked with you, I miss squaring my meals with you. Is that weird? I wish you all well this week and I'll offer an early congratulations for Friday. I'm so proud of all of you and hope we can keep in touch in the future. jordan-clay@hotmail.com
