Foxtrot - 181 Company Commanders provide update

Greetings family and friends of recruit company Foxtrot-181. We are the Company Commanders in charge of transforming your recruit into a Guardian. Our names are Petty Officer Second Class Sutton (Lead CC), Chief Petty Officer Dendy, and Petty Officer First Class Ross.

We thought this would be a good time in training to give you all an update on Foxtrot-181’s progress from our vantage point.

Just like most companies F-181 started out a little rough. That is to be expected of a large group of people thrown together so quickly. F-181 has progressed well since that first Friday when we pick them up from Sexton Hall. Of course, they have had their ups and downs. The good thing is that everyday we see them working more as a team to get the job done. As you might have heard, these weeks have been filled with a roller coaster of emotions due to F-181 being away, some for the first time, from their family and friends.

These last two weeks have been the most demanding yet most rewarding for F-181. Events such as shooting at the range, physical fitness test, picking their first duty station, and mid-term exam. Good news is everyone passed the mid-term, but some failed to meet minimum standards during the physical fitness test. Those recruits will be getting up every morning at 4:45 a.m. in order to participate in remedial physical fitness. If they can meet the minimum standards before week eight they will be allowed to graduate with F-181.

Last Wednesday F-181 received their orders to their first duty stations. They will be making phone calls to let immediate family members know where they are going in the coming week. If you haven’t heard from them yet, please be patient.

Also new to the curriculum is Pugil Stick training. F-181’s first pugil stick bouts last Monday were cancelled due to weather but, they are all looking forward to one more scheduled pugil stick event this week. In addition to pugil sticks in the brand new Obstacle Course. This is going to be exciting for F-181 and the CC’s. This will really test them to see how well they can really work together as a team.

All the recruits are looking forward to on-base liberty this Saturday (04APR) followed by off-base liberty in week seven.

Overall, we can honestly say they are progressing on schedule.

We look forward to standing with your recruit as they take their first steps into the field as Guardians on 17 APR Ø9.

V/R,
DC2 Sutton
GMC Dendy
ET1 Ross

Good Morning Friends and Family of FOXTROT -- As the FOXTROT Company Mentor, I had the opportunity to visit with them again this past weekend.

The recruits are coming together and performing much better now than they did a few weeks ago.

They all received their orders and were full of questions about their new units and what life is like in the Operational Coast Guard.

I had hoped to go on a Company Run with FOXTROT on Sunday, but due to the ever changing weather conditions in Cape May, I did not go. If you don't like the weather in Cape May, just wait 5 minutes, it will change.

The members of FOXTROT are geting antsy as they begin aking final preparations for graduation and their first duty assignments. I am confident that all 94 members of FOXTROT will be the best Guardians in the traditions of the U.S. Coast Guard.

I will be making my final trip to Cape May to visit with FOXTROT on April 16th and will deliver my speech at graduation.

Again, I look forward to meeting with as many of you as possible at the graduation.

Please feel free to drop me a quick note via e-mail at

Thank you so much, CC's Sutton, Dendy, and Ross. You have taken what was inside of my girl, SA MATTHEWS, JESSICA, and brought out the best in her!
She actually told me that she wished that she could have stayed longer and that you would have pushed harder!! She also had some pretty funny stories to tell.
She is now on her way to Petaluma and I'm tracking her every move.
DC2 Sutton, It was an honor to shake your hand at the Wawa Market last Friday.
Thanks again to all of you CC's for your guidance and patience with F-181.
Forever grateful,
