RECRUIT JOURNALS
Journals are posted to USCGBOOTCAMP by close of business every Tuesday. The first journal for each company is posted in week three of training.
If a journal entry is not posted, it means one of two things, the company is in week one or two of training or the Web master did not receive a submission.
The journals were created to provide family and friends with a peek into the lives of their recruits. The recruit historians try to document the experiences of the company not individual recruits.
We hope you enjoy reading the journals and experiencing Coast Guard Recruit Training through the eyes of our Guardians in the making.

Does anyone know the name of an inexpensive place to stay when we go to the graduation?
To Ryan's Mom
We're staying up in Abescon instead of Cape May. We went through Orbitz.com and expanded our search as Cape May was VERY expensive. The cost is still quite high, about $250 including taxes for 2 nights.
Hope to meet all the blog families at graduation!

Mom of SR Lauren Stehn
We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Vineland and it's $209 for 3 people for two days. It's about 50 miles from Cape May.
To Mitzi and those interested,Here's a suggestion for lodging in the Cape May area.
Check out the Comfort Inn in Vineland,NJ. about an hour away from Cape May, for Thursday night it was $69.99 +tax, if we stayed Friday night the price changed for weekend rates. You may also want to check out the website for choicehotels.com to view various other places within the 50 mile radious. I agree Cape May was very high priced.(tourist trap). The only thing about staying out of town, it will be an early morning wake up call to make breakfast in Cape May on Friday morning. My family and I are considering driving into Cape May on Thursday night to experience our drive the following day and check out the town. I also was given a couple of lunch spots there in town by an officer there stationed at Cape May: Examples C-view, Lobster House or Lucky Bones, are just a few recommended.I must say looking at the pictures,Cape May reminds me of shoreline towns from the New England area where I was raised, which has been years since I have experienced them. I'm just LQQing forward to seeing my son, and the men and women of company Victor 181and their families.
SR Morley
I am looking forward to seeing you on July 31 after your graduation. Everyone has sure missed you and we all love you a lot. Everyone else is looking forward to see you when your home on leave. We are all excited about your base assignment in Seattle, Washington, because it is close enought that we could come up and see you on a long week end
Love you Lots Mom and Dad Turner
SR Taylor
My husband suggested that any family that wants to and staying close by should meet up the night before..just for the fun of it! Sounds like many are staying outside the Cape May area so may not be real feasible. We are actually staying with a friend of my husbands from the Navy. I think it is about 45 minutes away, towards D.C.
Also, I have been looking for a job for a year and of course, was offered a job today to start the week of graduation. I talked to the man that hired me and he said we should be able to work it out. God, I pray it does. However, if it will have a bearing on my employment, I will probably not be able to go. I always said I would probably get job that week. I know Chad will understand because he knows how hard I have looked for and need a job. Nevertheless, I will be heartbroken. Already cried about it several times today.
I've loved reading everyone's post for the past weeks, but it would be great to know who each of us are to go with our comments. We would love to visit the night before to, but I do believe we to will be about 45 min. away. Either way we can all enjoy each other at breakfast. And dear "Stepmonster" my prayers and thoughts are with you to, and to also be able to go to graduation!! Until then, 13 more days and counting!! YAHOO!!!!!
sR Taylor
Momma Judd- I hsve not read the paperwork that Chad sent us regarding all the details of graduation. By your comments, I am assuming there is a breakfast the day of for families. It will be great to meet everyone if that is true. I need to read everything so I will know what is going on, Provided that I will be there. I
SR Carson,
So good to hear your voice yesterday, I just found this blog site today. So sorry I didn't know it was here. We love you and miss you! I hope you still get your information here on Victor. We love you and are so very very proud.
Love Mom and Dad
SR Morley
Tyler it was great news to hear of your first duty station in Seattle Washington! We are so proud of you!! We can't wait to see you after graduation. Keep your head held high. We have had fun reading the progress of VICTOR 181 and to hear of the progress you all have made. We love you very much. Love DAD & JANEY
Well after 6 weeks it sounds like everyone has not only come together as a team but have felt the pain of missing a few key steps along the way, exactly what's suppose to happen. It was great to hear my son's voice again today although only for a moment. He sounded strong and positive and confirmed my belief that the team had in fact come together over these past few weeks. Day by day they all get closer to the goal. For those that have orders to a Coast Guard Cutter, trust me when I say it will be the time of your life. There will be both good and bad but one thing is for sure, you'll never forget it and you'll always be glad you had the experience. Keep up the effort, graduation is not far off. Congratulations to you all, we'll see you soon.
Atlantic City is also a great place if your staying over Friday nite. Our plans include a nite of celebration. With family coming in from another state we decided one nite to visit was well worth delaying our arrival home by a day.
It is my understanding that some hotels in Cape May offer a discount for Coast Guard families- the Cape May forum on Tripadvisor is a good place to get information.
SR C.M.Taylor
Good Morning, Well, I finally got a call from my son Chad, but ofcourse it was a message left on my CELL phone yes, it came through and not on a landline. Although I was working, at 11:00 last night it was wonderful to listen to on the drive back. When you finally read this, I want you to know you I miss you so much. I think of the time that you are normally at college and it's like you're only a couple hours from me, but this has been a tough one knowing you're so far and no communication. I guess this is just a little what our future will hold. Time is passing now, and we'll all be seeing each other soon. Keep your head high, continue doing your best, and it will be all over soon. Love you, Mom
SR Taylor
It was great getting to talk to Chad again yesterday. His voice had a little lift in it this time. They are feeling the excitement of graduation. I hope all of the recruits are happy with their orders for the next phase of their Coast Guard career. Atlantic City is only about 45 minutes away and I have heard several families are staying there. Chad's dad is taking Chad him there after graduation to celebrate his 21st birthday, which is Monday.
Chad said many of them are buying portable cell phones next weekend when they have liberty off base, so they can make as many calls as possible! I guess that will be the last call until the big day!
SR Judd:
We are so sorry to have missed your phone call on Saturday:( But at least you left a voice mail on the phone:) glad for that. We are getting so excited to see you and in uniform no doubt!! We hope to hear from you again when you have leave again, we love and miss you TONS, but the time has gone by so fast I can't believe that graduation is just around the corner!!
Again, remember who you are, keep your head high, and keep up the good work!! We will see you soon!!!
Love you tons,
Mom and Dad
SR Harp:

Thanks everybody for the advise on where to stay. I had a wonderful talk with my son this weekend and I wish everybody safe travels to Cape May.
Cindy Woods
Wish I had of know about this blog before. I noticed everyone sending love and good wishes to their sons/daughters/spouses in basic training. I guess this is something they will be able to read after graduation? and mostly just a way of friends and family members to share information. My son also sounded wonderful this weekend when he called. They made it through the hard part and are on their way! This is my second son in the Coast Guard. Wishing every one and their coastie the best. I can wait to see my son, Brannon. You will be amazed at the change in your loved one both mentally ad physically and all for the best. I am so proud of my Coastie Son's....you're the best!
I read in the company updates that X-Ray Co actually had the opportunity to read the blog. I must assume that all Co's then have this chance. I didn't think they had the opportunity but glad to see they do, I'm sure it's a real boost.
As a retired coastie and the uncle of one fine coastie who's now competing for CPO it's a great sense of pride that my son has decided to follow myself and his cousin. The two of them are very close and as it turns out they'll be assigned to units in the same city. My nephew reported just this month and soon my son will be close by. Very cool.
A short story; when my nephew was in bootcamp I was there Company Sponsor. As a CPO I was allowed this opporunity and I couldn't have had more fun. Meeting with all those young coasties who at the time were full of ideas and questions it was amazing. I was able to see them often, as you might guess it was a challenge to remain quite about my nephew. Having different last names helped keep our secret for the first 5 weeks.
One of the oddest moments was on my first visit. Week 1 and time for a locker inspection. As luck would have it my nephew's locker was chosen. As you might guess it was incorrectly done and thus suffered a severe clearing.
As I've mentioned in my letters to my son, the 8 weeks of memories created will never be forgotten.
As a Coastie myself I couldn't be more proud of every man and woman who's taken on this challenge. I hope that each of you find as much joy and satisifaction from your service. The Coast Guard is a great organization with superb people and a wonderful mission. Enjoy every part of it.
Congratulations again, we'll see you all soon.
SR Green,
Dad and I are so very proud of you. Aunt Suzie even said she can't believe that you are in boot camp. I loved hearing your voice last weekend. Looking forward to off base? Find some phones and call again. We are leaving next Thur. to come down.
Love, Mom & Dad
SR Green,
Hopefully I will have time to send one or two more letters before you graduate. I am so excited to see you graduate and can't wait to find you in the crowd of blue. Dad and I are very proud to have our last child join the Green military family. I can't believe all of our kids are now in. You don't know how proud that makes us feel and the stories that you will be able to tell your kids. We are staying in Cape May. We found a hotel for two nights, although you will be leaving Friday with Shawn. I love you my beautiful daughter and can't wait to see you. Love Mom.
SR Allison and Amanda Bolduc
Hi! You both sound so positive in your post cards. So very proud of you. I hope Yankee 181 is getting over their cough. Sending chicken soup vibes! Stay strong, keep motivated. I love you both!

SR Morley:
Mom and Dad are wondering when it will be your turn to call home. Looking forward to talking to you. We miss you and are proud of you. Plan on the 2nd on August to go to Tabiona for Kayela's blessing. Love you COASTIE
Mom and Dad Turner
I do not start work until 8/3/09 so I CAN go to graduation! Now, I can let myself get excited. Cannot believe it is one day and one week away! It has gone by so fast...not for the recruits I am sure! I cannot wait to meet all the families at breakfast the day of Graduation. Way to go Coasties! All of your family and friends are SO proud of you!
SCPORET-I do not think they can see these blogs until after graduation. We were printing them off and sending them to Chad to share with the rest of the company. They were confiscated because, as he was told, they came off the internet and they have no internet privileges or are not allowed to receive anything off the internet. I suggested that everyone print them off, so their recruit can have them after they graduate. Might be wrong, but it does state (somewhere on this site have to find it again) that the recruits do not see them, it is mainly for families to communicate. Not sure why X-ray was allowed to read them.
See everyone on the 31st!
SR Bradley:
It was so, so GOOD to hear from you and have a "normal" conversation. (smile) I can't wait to see you on graduation day! It will be so exciting to see you again and to see you in your uniform...can't wait! Congratulations on your orders to go to California! Your prayers were answered and I'm happy for you. Just remember to keep God first and all things will be added to you! We are all praying for you! We miss and love you LOTS AND LOTS! You're almost there...just keep the faith!
Love, kisses and hugs!
Mom
Today Unifrom 181...next week Victor 181. I am so proud of all of you and all the incredibly hard work you have been doing and the company coming together to accomplish this incredible beginning of your Coast Guard career! SR Taylor (Chad) I cannot wait to see you for the first time in uniform in formation. I am already crying. I love you and am so PROUD of you! See you in a week! New Jersey...or bust!
That would be Uniform 181. Sorry for the typo. No disrespect just blind!
So great to hear from my son today. Amazing how a little freedom can relax the tone of our converstation. He mentioned that everyone was buying pay as you go phones so I'm sure like me everyone is getting the first real phone call since June. Great to hear that everyone is doing so well. After today it's just 4 days and a wake up.
SR Figueira
It was great getting your phone call this morning. Your family and friends are so proud of you. We knew you would do very well. Keep up the good work. Have a great graduation week. See you in Hawaii!
Aloha,
Dad
We are leaving tomorrow and I am so excited. I cannot wait to see Chad and see how the whole company has come together! I am so proud of all of them. Think they had a rough start as to be expected, but seems they worked it all out! Go Coasties!
So I went this past Saturday to see my husband while the company had off base liberty! I met some of your sons and daughters! There are some great people in Victor181! It's almost over!! I'm excited to get the chance to meet all of you guys! Have safe travels to Cape May! It's a cute town with cute little shops if that interests you! Keep in mind traffic going down there is usually crappy. It usually takes me about an hour and 15 min..it ended up taking me almost 2hrs with traffic!
Andree Coyne = ]
Can you believe it, 1 day and a Wake up..
The CGC Dauntless awaits my son. As a past Coastie with a bit of Sea Time I was happy to hear he had orders afloat. Great Memories to be had by everyone. The Coast Guard is a great place to be.
Congratulations Jordon on a job well done. I can't wait to sit and just listen, my ears are wide open.
Love ya Dad, Mom and the entire family.
SR Taylor:
