SR Michael A. Perry
Hi Mickey. We have been thinking about you and know every day has been a new adventure and can't wait to hear about every day we have missed. The 4th of July had us at Masi and Robert's. Their pool was a welcome site because our wonderful Texas heat was the usual high 90's. Paul, Paulie, Trav, Janie, Glenn and myself spent many hours relaxing in the cool water. Neighbor's next to them were having a huge Crawfish boil and came over in their golfcart to invite us over. Trav wanted some though we were actually still pretty full from dinner. So Paul, Janie, Masi and I went there and socialized a bit then filled up a ice chest full and returned to Masi's and ate till are mouth's were on fire. Hope you guys had a good 4th. The boys will be writing letters the old fashioned way. We are all so proud of you and are always here for you. Love, the gang on Bear Track.

SR Trachman Wow. We just read the journal and it is an eye opener. We know it is extremely challenging for you and for everyone in your company. We also know that you can and will do it! Remember to stay focused, listen carefully, and know that all of this is for a reason, even if you don't know what that reason is yet. You and the rest of X181 will get it together and succeed! We love you! Mom & Dad

Read the Journal. Makes me recall my bootcamp days.
Best thing to remember is that everyone learns at different speeds, help those that are in need. Your company commanders know what is going on and want you all to become great sailors. Keep it all positive.
Try to remember this verse ; Col 3:23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for[a] you serve the Lord Christ. Do your best no matter who is watching.

Wow, quite a blog! It's so tough making this transition but it will get easier with time. Continue to help each other and be strong and know that you will all pull through and be one. It doesn't happen over night. It's frustrating when not everyone is on board, but trust me it doesn't go unnoticed and the non-conformist will be sent home. This is a commitment. This training will prepare all of you for your future, no matter what it may hold. Hang in there Tyler, I know you're doing well. I think about you everyday. Love Mom.

Ohana said...

SR Woehrle,
WOW!!! Hold your head high bud. Just read the blog and realized that this is all so real!! It takes time to come together and everyone learns on their own pace. I fairly believe you ALL will form as a team. Don't give up,just remember their is a light at the end of the tunnel and we will be their waiting. We think of you everyday.

All Our Love, Mom,Dad,Kehau and Chansum

FSC Lee said...

To X-Ray 181,

Do not get discouraged, everyone in this United States Coast Guard has gone threw the same thing.
Do not feel that it is just you, its not. If this wasn't meant to be challenging then everyone would be in boot camp. Consider the first couple of weeks as growing pains, this company has come together from all over the country with different back grounds and beliefs. Now you must come together as a unified company.(X-Ray 181) For the next few short weeks, it will be challenging, however... not impossible.

For those of you that are trying to skate threw this, you are not only short changing your fellow shipmates but more importantly the citizens of the USA. This experience is not about one person, its about one company coming together to serve a common goal/good.
One crew, one voice... you either fly as a team or fall as a team. There is no in-between.

To make my point during 911. Many personnel from different CG units had come together and converged on NY. They all had a mission and that mission was to work together to serve and protect the American people.

We miss you and love you all. We want you all to succeed. You all have been given the tools to succeed, now show us what you can do with it....

Along with our core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. When you learn the Guardian Ethos it provides a constant reminder to our people/shipmates of the noble calling of our service… the reasons why we serve…. and the critical importance of our missions.

One last thought to ponder today.....

Remember....
Be loud, be proud YOU ARE X-RAY 181!!!!!

V/R,

Chief Lee
**S-136**

I waited for the mail today hoping to get a note from you. Based on the last blog, you may have spent your devine hours on Sunday in church :-) Have to keep some humor here.

Hey, what can I say? This is part of the process. As a mom, I will admit it is a bit uncomfortable reading about it as you all go through it. As a teacher, I have to tell you to hold steady and stay the course. As painful as it may be, it is a "tried and true" method of establishing a team of leaders.

Make no mistake - this is a moment of your life that you will never forget. Not ever. And the day that you graduate, you will never forget the pride of standing there in a uniform that NONE of you were given, but that ALL of you earned.

Looking forward to seeing you at graduation......you have our thoughts and prayers. J is being good.......We love you.

This really should not be a free rant for you personally, young lady.

Those of us relatives & friends reading the long awaited blog just want to know that ya'll are ok, that you are being seriously challenged, eatting good meals, and going through what you are suspose to go through.

If you could use restraint with negative personal observations of other classmates, it would probably be better in the long run too. You don't want, what you write, to come back and bite ya, do you?

Don't think for a minute that your Officers and Commanders don't know exactly what is going on with who, what, when and where at all moments. They have done this before.

Your experience is not the same as the person standing next to you. Each classmate's experience is preceived different in a deeply personal way.

Kindness and honor walk further to the end result than scarcasim and snide remarks. Just tell a story, Dear.
The history of X-Ray 181.

No one is holding anyone back.
Perfection does not come in 2 weeks.
Please don't use this as your personal fustration sounding board. You are speaking for a team. Maybe ask around with your classmates before you blogg each day? What do others on the team want us to know?

If you've been stressed too much on any given day, get someone else's viewpoint on that day, huh? They might think that doing a thousand pushups was fun.

Tell us a story. Tell us about something you sing when you march. Take a poll. Is everyone getting at least 1 hour of sleep a night? What is the food like? Are the PE clothes comfortable? Why are you homesick? Tell us!

I have all kinds of funny stories to tell about when I was in Army boot camp, which indeed was run by the Devil himself! We had a few ding-dongs in our platoon. So what? We had a "Mr. Marches Perfect" too. He ended up being in the Color Guard. Good for him!

Love your classmates despite the slackers and unsures and goof-ups..... Love your classmates despite extra fire drills & pushups.
Love your classmates despite who you are.

Ask SR Boon about the two packs of Chips Ahoy cookies at Army Bootcamp.

Contraban!!!!

Your Commander and Officers would think something was wrong with this bunch if at least one classmate didn't try something like that. If you were too perfect, their job would be too easy and that's not how they roll! They don't want easy for you. You don't want easy for you! I promise.

Hang in there and know we are proud of each and every one of you!!!! I'm not just proud of my nephew.
I love each of you in X-Ray 181!!! On Graduation Day
I will cry with Pride and Happiness for each of you.

Whatever your feelings are at the moment, Dear, please realize that many parents, relatives and friends look forward to reading the published postings from you.

We know you are going through hell, and that you don't understand at times, but you are going to be a Coast Guard Graduate in a few weeks, ok? That's some hot-stuff! You'll be ok.
I promise!

Love,

Aunt Bruce

Recruit Lee,

Your dad said it all in his last blog. Just remember a few things, maintain your military bearing and attention to detail. This will help your stay at boot go a lot easier. You are part of a TEAM, everything you do will affect each other. Always stand tall and give 110% at everything you do. See you at graduation.

We love you and miss you! We know you are hanging tough and taking it one day at a time. You are constantly in our thoughts and prayers.

I couldn't wait to read the first journal and after reading it I felt so worried and discouraged for all of you. THANK YOU to the families who responded and have experienced this before for easing my mind!! I felt a lot better after reading your responses. I knew it would be extremely tough but the journal writer seemed so negative, it really concerned me.

The days are slowly turning into weeks, and the weeks into months and before you know it we will all be in Cape May for graduation.

Hang in there XRay 181 - we are all behind you and we know you can do this!

I hope you are feeling much better and that the Cape May Crud has run its course. Do not get discouraged with an extra week. You can not help the illness situation and it is evident that this year has been very difficult with the spread of the Crud. Hold your head high and move forward you are just a little over a month way from graduation! Remember why you made the decision to join the CG and ALWAYS remember all of the family and friends who support you and say a prayer for you everyday.

We are very proud of you and know that you will be very successful. Be a leader and stay focused!

After reading the journal entry for last week and seeing the very negative tone in which it was written I was concerned with the historian and her perspective. Do not let this affect all of you. You made an very unselfish and courageous decision to serve you country. Remember this on those down days! It takes time to come together as a TEAM especially when you all are from all over the country. You have to learn the strengths and weakness of each person. Hold your heads high and move forward. The goal of graduation is getting closer everyday you are there.
There will continue to be good and bad days but as you come together as a team you will notice that the good days will begin to outweigh the bad days.
Stay strong and remember that we are very proud of you. We will see you at graduation!

Prayers and Good thoughts to all from Westerville, OH.

We miss you and pray for you everyday. Can't wait for that first phone call. Stay strong and help those who are struggling. Work as a team and pull from each others strenghs. We will see you in 5 short weeks.

does anyone know if the recruits get an opportunity to read this?

The Boons said...

Anthony, my guess is no. I think this is more for our sake. They don't have internet access.

Bruce Boon said...

How can we find out?

Kelly Muir said...

Anthony,

I agree - I don't think so. When my son called me about some paperwork issues during week two he indicated that they have not seen the blog.

What I have been doing, however, is printing off the sheets every few days and sending them so he can see the support.

I suggested that he share them with others who may not be aware of the Blog support. I wanted him to know tht not only does he have the support of myself and other family and friends - but the other recruits do as well. If the family responses personalize some of the other recruits for them - better for everyone.

I think the blog is an amazing tool for all of us. I am very grateful that we have a support system of sorts. I have communicated with many families that I have met through this blog and it has made the "Coastie Mom Journey" so much easier.

We are all feeling the same anxiety about those that we love. I look forward to catching up on posts each morning even more than I look forward to my daily coffee!!! I don't kow who needs it more, my son or myself. LOL

Between all of us, we have children, significant others, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that have embarked on this amazing journey. Like Circus Crafts, I cannot wait to clap for each one - and to meet all of you who have supported them.

I thank the USCG for providing this opportunity for families to connect and support our loved ones and each other. Even when the weekly BLOG wasn't exactly what we had hoped for, it gave us all a connection that day. Good bad or otherwise, it was still a connection.

So, Anthony, again, I don't believe they read it on the internet. Regardless, it is a great way to show support.

I recall back in Navy boot-camp how the simplest of things, such as turning left could become an ordeal, especially with fatigue and weariness, however I know the determination of a team. The fine men and women are sure to be a fine asset to our country and the bold organization they are joining.

Looking for the family of "Taylor" or "SR Taylor" (26 year old male/ from California)

My son sent a letter today and in it referenced the above recruit. If his family is reading the blog, please know that while my son was stuck in the infirmary for 24 hours, this individual thought to bring him his "rucksack" with his items in it so that he could continue to study while getting treatment. It helped to keep him from falling behind. It was a great gesture...and one that didn't go unnoticed.

In the midst of all of the worry that the recruits were not forming as a team yet, that situation indicates that despite all the pressure and stress, they have, indeed, begun to become a family.

Thank You to 'Taylor" or SR Taylor"

Aunt Missy and I are thinking of you and want you to know that we love you. Remember what I told you...this is all a game to get you all to realize that you are not individuals anymore but ONE team that MUST depend on one another for survival. This IS the way that it will be once you are in the fleet and defending OUR country from foreign and domestic enemies. Your life may depend on someone that you just met on your ship or boat or that person may save your life as well. Try to get these shipmates that are not being good TEAM players to understand that and your problems should go away. Make us proud and be the bigger person and take control and get your shipmates squared away. We know you can do it and I am VERY, VERY proud of you for choosing this path.

We love you and ALL your shipmates,

A Coast Guard Movie. Ok, so I just happened to have rented an old Disney movie called, The Boatniks. It was rather silly, but had the Coast Guard in it so it made it enjoyable. Actually in watching it made me think about what wonderful and exciting things our Coast Guards will do.
Here is a review from Netflix.. The Boatniks(1970) G

After being put in charge of one of America's busiest waterways, ham-fisted Ensign Thomas Garland (Robert Morse) finds himself up against three inept jewel thieves who unintentionally dump their booty into the bay. Navigating one mishap after another, Garland takes the wind out of the trio's sails when they hatch a plot to recover their ill-gotten gains. Co-stars Stefanie Powers, Phil Silvers and Wally Cox add to the levity in this Disney comedy....

It was good clean fun.

Stay strong X-181! And beware those crazy Mosquitos!
