"I am proud to be a United States Coast Guardsman.
I revere that long line of expert seamen who by their devotion to duty and sacrifice of self have made it possible for me to be a member of a service honored and respected, in peace and in war, throughout the world."
SR Hunt and Y-181, I graduated from the USCG in 03. My heart swells for you during this time. As hard as this may seem, there are storms in the Bering that are far worst. There are men and women serving before you now. You are their worthy reinforcements.

What is this Blog stuff? Don't you guys have some learning to do? How does Blogging make you a Coastie? I'm kidding......We miss and love you very much! Always remember "Most people give up just when they're about to achieve success. They quit on the one yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game one foot from a winning touchdown." I've seen you in that very situation and you've always shown more heart and desire that players twice your size. If you can handle a double or tripple team coming at you, you can handle this in your sleep. The defense of our country is being passed to your generation. Take the torch and not only run with it, let the light from the flame show the pride and confidence in your face. Make us proud!!!

FYI, I've served in the military for four years and know first hand how hard it is leaving the Islands and accounting for a small percentile of your company. No worries, for us Hawaiian's ALWAYS prevail and conquor all situations / circumstances in everything we do. Let them know where you're from and who you're representing and everything will fall in place accordingly. Most importantly REMEMBER that our Heavenly Father / Jesus will undoubtedly be there to direct, intruct, lead, encourage, help and open doors unimaginable.

We're always praying for your health, safety, strength and well being to succeed in all your task's.

Have a positive and blessed day.

Got a letter in the mail today. Sounds like you are doing well. That's great!! How did the swim test go? Since you are part fish, I'm sure it went well. From reading other Companies journal posts, it sounds like some of them have had issues with team work and attention to detail. You guys (and girls) need to work together on everything from studies to physical fitness to cleaning. No one person can make it all happen for everyone. Take care of yourself, try to eat well, and most of all remember we love and miss you very much!!

HEY YANKEE 181! YOU SOUND AS THOUGH YOU ARE DOING GREAT. I RECEIVED A WONDERFUL LETTER TODAY FROM MY SON, AND IT ONCE AGAIN WAS A LETTER ABOUT FOOD! HE LIKES THE FOOD!! THERE ACTUALLY WAS MUCH MORE TO HIS LETTER, AND IT MADE ALL OF US VERY HAPPY. THE TASK THAT YOU HAD TO DO WITH CARRYING THE ITEMS TO YOUR RACK IS VERY SIMILAR TO ONE I DO HERE AT HOME, IT'S CALL CARRYING GROCERIES IN, AND IT'S ROUGH. LOL!
IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE AN AWESOME GROUP!! BE KIND, BE STRONG, AND WORK HARD!!
BLESS YOU ALL

So, I hear you got a blog from Kitty. The cats rule comment was over the top. That tire you hung in the tree is getting lots of use. You got it just high enough so I can hang from it. Way cool. I can hang out for hours at a time. No new dogs down the beach so it is quiet here. I am learning to sit quietly in the kayak without tipping it over. Your Mom and Dad did another show at Big Top this week. They miss you.

Coastie To Be Parents

This posting is for all the parents who share one thng in common: pride in the commitment our sons and daughters are making to the safety and protection of our country and others whether it be in search and rescue, protecting our shores or our environment. I guess we all have done something right in raising them.

Below are two videos that honor the dedication and bravery of those who choose to serve in the United States Coast Guard that I ran across today.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DmVAYHCugI&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Owi2JdcyZIc

In the first video, there is a line that seems very appropriate and timely to consider as these young people complete their training at Cape May: "This is where heroes are made."

Sweet Cakes,

1...2...3...4...

You know you want me, you know i gotcha...lol

Do you remember when i sang that song to you? You had not heard the song yet and probably thought i was a goof. I have a new favorite song love- "Baby your my everything, your all i ever wanted." I think of you every time i hear this song on the radio! -Do you remember our first love song? I think it was by artist Justin T. (Summer love) I heard it on the radio the other day and it reminded me of the time two summers ago when we slept under the stars @ Leo Carrillo Beach.

Hey mama i hope you got some well earned R & R yesterday. You must be exhausted by now, hang in there your almost done by now. I'm so proud of you and confident your not phased by the physical test. I've been working on passing the Coast Guard physical test. I got a few more Personal Records at the gym. I did 8 flat dumbell presses with the 110Ib. free weights. I also did 455 on deadlift! I'm repping 225 on the bench now 2. I'm also lifting 145 on the preacher curls plus skull crushers now-a-days! Our school gym doesnt have enough weights for me to max lat pull downs (i'm now doing 200 which is the entire machine) same with the rows there are not enough weight for me! I do 1,200 on the leg presses which is a pain cuz its about 45lb. X 14, and it sucks stacking the weights when I'm done! I could really use your help to spot me baby girl. Especially on the Tri-cep dips cuz now i stack four fourty-five weights plus a seventy pound free weight on my chest for ten reps.

I always look forward to reading your letters they put me at ease for the time being!Let me know if you are receiving my letters and postcards, because I may have not sent them to the appropriate address. You are truly missed one love, you are in my thoughts.

Love Always and Forever,
Bryan

Hey buddy!!!

Looks like you guys and girls are gettin ready for mid terms, duty station selections and physical fitness tests. As Post Coastie so correctly put it "Boot camp isn't about getting through or over, it is truly about change. Be willing. Be transformed. Be a Coastie!" While I don't know what it means to be a "coastie" I do know what it means to be a soldier and defender of our country. We know you are all ready and working hard. Don't forget to help those in need, study hard and get plenty of rest (yea right!! :) for the physical fitness test. I guess this will be the first test of your skill retention. Good luck!! Looking forward to seeing your pictures in your dress uniform. Chicks dig it too!!
Things here are still good. 14th day in a row over 100 degrees. Getting pretty dry. We really need some rain. Hopefully the lake will have some water when you come home. Would be nice to take you wakeboarding and cliff jumping!! Take care of yourself. We love and miss you.

To Spouses, Parents and Significant Others Planning on Attending Graduation.

Having gone through graduation a couple of years ago for another of our sons, I thought the followng information might be useful even though it may be a bit early to be planning for graduation.

Family members can come early to the base to eat breakfast at the Harborview Club. It's $5 a person and begins at 8:30 a.m. The parent's briefing at the Ida Lewis Auditorium begins at 10 a.m.. It includes a movie on recruit training, speeches and an introduction of key staff. Graduation begins at 11 a.m. and lasts about an hour. After graduation, recruits return to their barracks to pick up their gear and say goodbye. Family can go to the barracks to help them load up. Many of the families then go to lunch at one of the restaurants near the water. I believe that recruits then have 10 days of leave before reporting to their first duty stations.

Last time, we stayed overnight before graduation in Cape May at a bed and breakfast near the ocean. It was off season so the rates were quite reasonable. However, this graduation will be during the peak of the summer season and rates are quite high we found in looking both a hotels and b&B's. So, we are going to stay in Atlantic City, which is 47 miles away and a little over an hour's drive I am told. Given the current negative economic impact on the casinos, rooms are cheap. For example, the Hilton Casino Resort is offering rooms at $85. This is not a plug for them, just an indicator that good deals can be had.

Hope this is useful.

Thanks for the input!

Allison: What has been your favorite thing yet?

Amanda: And your favorite?

Side note: Mommy has 11 watermelon plants growing next to the pool because I spit a bunch there last week. It reminded me of when we would do that in the summer and then hop into the pool with sticky watermelon faces and hands.
