We are so proud of you. Sara is still in Rhode Island helping Joan close up her house and should be home by tomorrow. Eric sent you a letter today and mom put pictures and news clippings for you to see what has been going on in the world outside of TRACEN, Cape May. Eric's team did not win in Virginia Beach this weekend but we did. We took the ferry home thru Cape May on Tuesday and drove up to the base. It was great for your mom because she was in need of an Alex fix. I hope you get stationed in Cape May. I hope you got all our letters! There are more coming. We booked our room on the Cape for the 27th August 2009 so we can be fresh and on time for your graduation. We both miss you so much and we are so proud of you and the other coasties! Zulu 181 will surely be the best of the best when you graduate the end of the month.

Stay focused, stay strong, stay positive!

SR HUMPHREY....

hi there, i see that you have received your colors. sounds exciting, however i have not the slightest idea what that means. nonetheless i hope you have stored this event in your long term memory because i expect to hear every last detail!!

i have been sending you letters, hopefully you have been getting them. i guess the addressed and stamped envelope i included has not yet been an incentive to write me back. i must come up with something a little more creative and tactful i suppose ;).

as im sure you know (maybe even better than your own name) I MISS YOU terribly! lets not even get into how much i love you.....!!

im sure you are doing great... what with your physical ability, your discipline for studying, and your need to be very clean. this can only make things a little bit easier on you i should hope.

hope to hear from you SOON -- i pathetically check the mail 5 times a day and have my phone glued to my hip... i have not lost hope, yet know you well enough to know not to get my hopes up as well.

w/ love always,

Hey, Dude, Kitty here. Heard you are in a new class. Sory you were sick, but after what you did to me I am not so sure it wasn't "justice". I have recovered from the bath you gave me in the pool before you left Vegas. Don't you know cats don't swim? And you wonder why I sank to the bottom of the pool and then scratched you when you did your rescue swimmer thing. Saw the video of your impression of an ostrich - awesome, man! Remember, cats still rule, and Coasties drool.

SR Drew Humphrey

Looks like you got your preferred location but not necessarily your preferred job, at least to start. We mailed 3 envelopes (marked 1, 2, 3 on the outside so you can track what you recevied) describing your ship (with pictures) and port and a few recent articles on your ship ranging from rescuing a 1200 lb seal, to training with the FBI to being outfitted with new weapons for port security. #1 has the best info along with a sample of the orders you will receive. Needless to say we are excited to see you at graduation. Keep hangin' tough. Pa Dukes

Sounds like several in your company are coming our way, while you're headed to the other side of the country. You all have such an adventure ahead of you. Hard to believe the first phase is winding to close already. Or is that easy for us to say out here? Keep up the good work! We'll see you soon.

We finally received the questionnaire we sent you to fill out about boot camp. Your responses were great!

Yesterday, Michaelyn sent us a link to a video from a North Bend OR television news station on a rescue Chris participated in on Tuesday. They hoisted a 10 year old who had been pulled from the ocean after nearly drowning. The cliffs were too steep for rescuers to climb so they called the Coast Guard search and rescue helicopter to hoist both the child and paramedic. We will save the link for you. It is way cool. Chris will check to day to see if the boy survived.

We still plan on coming to graduation. We arrive Wednesday night and stay at the Marriot near the airport in Philly. Then Thursday we drive to Atlantic City where we will stay at the Hilton. Friday, we will drive down to Cape May. It is about 1 hour drive. Love ya dude, Pa Dukes

Hey Alex

Two more days and a wake up and you will have graduated. We are so proud of your accomplishments thus far. We know that Kodiak, Alaska will be by far your greatest accomplishment and adventure ever!

You have become the young man I knew you could be. In only a short time, and yes 8 weeks is a short time in relation to your life, you have become a mature, responsible and I know capable member of the United States Coast Guard. This was not an easy task but you did it!

Today's journal said it all you are the "Guardians," you are the "United States Coast Guard."

So now its time to end the time at Cape May dry dock, get your feet wet and get under way. Here comes your journey of a lifetime!

It was an honor to meet most of you as it is our honor that you represent our country.

God Bless you all!

love and respect to all of you in Zulu 181,

Alex's Family

Family, friends, and graduating members of Zulu 181 --
What an awesome experience! From saying good bye at the MEPS building, getting that last text from the bus "we're here", receiving the first letter home, seeing the progress on the blog, hearing your voice on the phone after 6 weeks, the long drive to Cape May, the anticipation of graduation day, to finally seeing all you so strong and proud with newfound confidence and self assurance that was so obvious on your faces! What an experience! And that is just what we experienced on our end. Oh the stories you are telling now that you're home. Congratulations to every single one of you and to the families and friends who are now busting with pride. Good luck to you all on your journey!
